By Mads Lennon
It’s a win for Ted Lasso! The new Apple TV+ series that absolutely dominated everyone’s television screens during the time when we needed it most has secured the significant award for show star Jason Sudeikis, who took home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series!
While Schitt’s Creek took home the award for Best Comedy, it was great to see Sudeikis get recognition for being the heart and soul of Ted Lasso. The hit series received tons of love this year from audiences and critics alike, so it’s great to see Sudeikis win for the show that has captured so many hearts, despite its humble origins as a commercial sketch.
Even Apple TV+ knows they have a bonafide megahit on their hands as they’ve already given the series an order for a second and third season. Ted Lasso appears to be one of the Globe’s favorite newbies this yea.

Adding to the surprise and wonder of Sudeikis’s win is that it’s the first significant win for Apple TV Plus. It proves that the fledgling streaming service has some real skin in the game, which is a good thing since they have countless projects coming out soon with numerous A-listers attached to star!
While I personally loved Ted Lasso, there was the possibility of dark horse contender Nicholas Hoult from The Great upsetting the balance. I wouldn’t have minded too much because I thought The Great was also fantastic, and criminally overlooked, but at the end of the day, I’m quite happy with the Apple TV Plus winning such a significant award.
