Golden Globes 2021: Mark Ruffalo wins for Best Actor for I Know This Much Is True
By Mads Lennon
Mark Ruffalo has won for his excellent work in the HBO series I Know This Much is True based on the book of the same name by Wally Lamb. In the series, Mark Ruffalo played two characters, Dominick and Thomas Birdsey. Whether it’s the Emmys, Oscars or Golden Globes, the people picking the award winners almost unanimously love when actors play more than one role!
I Know This Much is True premiered to generally positive reviews from critics, but it was Ruffalo’s spectacular performance that really appealed to them and audiences. The series takes place in the early 1990s in Three Rivers, Connecticut, following the story of Dominick and his identical twin Thomas, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
Thomas is able to live in relative peace as long as he takes his medication but still has some bouts of illness once. At one point he even cuts off his own hand in the hopes that he can make a protest that will put an end to the Gulf War. Dominick reaches out to help his brother.
Mark Ruffalo wins Best Actor for playing twin brothers in the limited series I Know This Much is True
Ruffalo was always the favorite to win in this category, but it honestly could have gone to just about anyone as it was one that was less sure. Still, Ruffalo also won the Primetime Emmy Award for the same category and could still win the awards from the Screen Actors Guild and the Critics Choice Awards. This Mark Ruffalo’s first Golden Globe Award, although he has been nominated several times in the past.
