Golden Globes 2021: The Crown takes home the win for Best Drama Series

Netflix’s The Crown took home “the crown” of the night in the form of the prestigious Best Drama award at the Golden Globes 2021. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to those who have kept up with the historical drama series since it began.
The Crown has long been one of the streaming service’s most discussed and acclaimed series as it chronicles the fascinating life of the royal family. The most recent season finally introduced Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, who also received her fair share of accolades for her performance.
Throughout its run, The Crown has amassed an incredible amount of awards, so this is just the latest in a string of wins for the series, which is set to end with its sixth season. Considering the number of nominations The Crown, and Netflix racked up at this year’s ceremony, it goes without saying that Netflix remains the top dog when it comes to the streaming wars.
The Crown achieves history by winning Best Drama for the second time
The Best Drama win for The Crown leaves the acclaimed series with two significant wins for the night in total as Corrin also nabbed the award for Best Actress in a Drama for her work as Princess Diana. Overall, it’s been a good night for the historical drama.
The Crown taking home the Best Drama award is actually a historic win for the series as the Golden Globe rarely gives the same series this particular award more than once. It has only happened a handful of times (seven!) throughout the award show’s run. The historical series previously won this award for its first season in 2016.
Currently, the first four seasons of the series are available to stream on Netflix. The fourth season recently dropped on the streamer last November. It’s not yet clear when the final fifth and sixth season will premiere on the service, but fans are eagerly awaiting updates on the show’s return.
