Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 recap: A shot of betrayal
By Louis Skye
In Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6, “Do Not Resuscitate,” Team-Batwoman takes some hard hits, Jacob Kane can’t handle the truth, and Alice gets an ally.
This action-packed, suspenseful installment of The CW show shines a harsh light on the Hamilton-Kane family. The Desert Rose antidote that cured Hamilton Industries are replicating the Bat-toxin given by Alice. Unsuccessfully, as a few unfortunate patients learn.
These experiments aren’t new to Hamilton Industries—they’ve been happening for years, even when Mary’s late mother was in charge. One of those experiments, Amygdala (RJ Fetherstonhaugh), is about to cause the family a lot of pain.
The head scientist in charge of the experiments sends Amygdala to kidnap Mary and Jacob—the cure came from Mary’s lab, so it’s a good starting point. But this is going to open a massive can of worms in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6.
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 – Amygdala in Control
Jacob and Mary regain consciousness in their lab, and Mary pretends that she has no idea where they are—that doesn’t last long. This isn’t the way Mary wanted Jacob to find out about her underground clinic. Jacob isn’t entirely shocked to learn that his third daughter also had secrets. This man is a disaster of a parent.
Despite Amygdala’s threats—and violence control issues—Mary manages to keep the kidnapper at bay for as long as possible. She really doesn’t have any more of the Desert Rose. But when Amygdala starts stabbing Jacob, Mary realizes she has to do something. She gets the kidnapper to help her call Luke, and Mary sends him a cryptic message to call Batwoman.
One problem: Ryan is not well and collapses in the Batcave. Luke is distressed that Ryan didn’t tell him about the kryptonite infection for two whole months, but how was she going to? She’d begged to put on the suit. She could hardly give Luke yet another reason to doubt her abilities to be Batwoman.
These two have been butting heads since the beginning, and it’s cost Ryan her health—maybe even her life. How did it get this bad? Because everyone in the orbit of the Kane family is a mess.
After everything Mary and Jacob go through in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6, Jacob still shows himself to be a jerk. He plans to shut down Mary’s clinic because it’s against the law. Where do the people who can’t get medical help go without clinics like Mary’s? Jacob’s superpower is to send his daughters away from him.
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 – Ryan’s Choice
Ryan’s infection is so out of control that Angelique has to take her to the hospital in the middle of the night. But with Ryan’s lack of insurance, she waits hours to be seen by a doctor until Angelique bamboozles a nurse into getting them assistance. Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 is keeping it real, as always.
When Ryan’s insurance fails to cover her bloodwork, Angelique offers to pay. Angelique is making bank with her drug dealership, after all. But catering to the rich and famous also means she can’t get out. Not that she wants to.
Angelique is respected now; her clients will do anything to get their product. And unlike Ryan, who was eventually chosen by her mother while they were at the children’s home, Angelique never got picked. Angelique is finally getting a taste of that with her Snakebite dealership, and she won’t let it go.
Not even when Ryan offers her a job at The Hold Up, no matter what Ryan does to save Angelique, you can’t help someone who doesn’t want it.
And it comes back to bite Ryan. Sophie Moore learns that the Jack Napier painting is fake and that Ocean has the original. Who has connections to Ocean and his Snakebite operation? Angelique.
Sophie essentially blackmails Ryan into getting Ocean’s details from Angelique’s phone. Sophie now has enough on Angelique to send her to prison, so Ryan has to do everything to protect her partner even if she’s not happy about it.
Ryan makes a deal with Sophie; she’ll bug Angelique’s phone for details to Ocean’s location, but Angelique goes free.
But it only gets worse. Following Mary’s call to Luke, Ryan learns that Luke has been working with Sophie and Alice to find Ocean, who will lead them to Coryana, and finally to Kate. Ryan is furious—Luke came face to face with the woman who murdered Ryan’s mother, and not only did he let her go, but he’s also working with her!
Unfortunately, with Mary and Jacob in danger, Ryan and Luke set their differences aside. As Ryan recovers long enough to suit up, Luke enlists Sophie to save Mary and Jacob.
Amygdala is powerful, and he takes Sophie out almost immediately. Batwoman isn’t at her best, but a quick shot of adrenaline helps her take Amygdala down.
This is the only win Team-Batwoman will have today. The Hamilton doctor and his goons arrive and threaten to kill Sophie if they can’t get the map. In a surprising move, Batwoman chooses to save Sophie, whom she hates, in place of the map.
Finally, Luke realizes how much a hero Ryan really is—not just in the Batsuit. In Kate’s absence, Ryan has helped protect Gotham and clean up the streets. All while battling this terminal illness that she didn’t even understand.
But Team-Batwoman feels lost in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6. They can’t help Ryan with the kryptonite radiation. They can’t save Kate. And Jacob Kane is being… well, Jacob Kane.
To make matters worse, Angelique is onto Ryan and Sophie’s plan. This relationship could have been something, but Angelique can’t accept that Ryan ratted her out—even though that wasn’t what happened! Ryan’s got a terminal diagnosis, and the only person she cares about isn’t willing to hear about it. Why can’t Ryan catch a break?
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 – The Way to Coryana
Alice finally figures out what happened with her and Ocean’s memories—Safiyah not only wiped out the parts about them being together, but she also made Ocean think he’d been caught trying to escape Coryana with a Desert Rose flower.
Of course, Ocean can’t remember their time together the way Alice can. And he doesn’t seem as interested in her now as Alice is in him. Ouch!
Alice decides to call Safiyah’s goons but gets Safiyah herself. This whole situation with Ocean is Safiyah’s way of messing with Alice—some kind of weird game of control or something more?
Of course, it doesn’t quite work. Ocean and Alice want to remember their time together, and after a brief fight where they are evenly matched, they get a better idea of who they were to each other.
Safiyah isn’t the only person after Ocean in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6. Alice and Ocean’s reunion is interrupted by Sophie, who is determined to get that map to Coryana. Now, Alice needs another way to Coryana.
Backed into a corner, Alice stabs Ocean in his sleep and promises to bring his body to Safiyah. Safiyah had said that not knowing about her past with Ocean would make it easier for Alice to kill him.
Did it actually work? The real Ocean walks out to greet Alice, proves it didn’t. Safiyah may think she can win over Alice, but she doesn’t know this Gotham serial killer’s skills.
Alice is an artist, and she can make anybody look like she wants. With Ocean by her side, Alice can finally get back to Coryana, take Safiyah down and get Kate back.
Final Thoughts – Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 Brings Team-Batwoman Together, But at What Cost?
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 is probably the most CW episode of this season so far. It’s got intersecting storylines, plenty of drama, betrayals, and of course, tons of action.
I’m glad that Luke and Ryan are burying the hatchet, but I really hope that Ryan’s wound can be cured. It looks like the Desert Rose is Ryan’s only way back to life.
I hope that Sophie managed to look at the map before the Hamilton Industries doctor got it, and she can help Team-Batwoman get to Coryana.
It’s a killer cliffhanger to leave viewers on. We have a long wait to find out what happens next because Batwoman Season 2 will be on hiatus till March 14, 2021. But with a story this good, we’ll happily wait.
