Edie Falco is trading in her days as Nurse Jackie to take up the mantle of First Lady Hillary Clinton on the upcoming season of Impeachment: American Crime Story. This casting news was exclusively announced by Collider earlier this week, and suffice to say, many folks are quite excited.

Falco is best known for her role as Carmela Soprano in HBO’s critically acclaimed series The Sopranos, and of course, as the lead in Showtime’s Nurse Jackie. But now, she’s taking on a different kind of role as she will step into the West Wing–a much different environment than what she’s done in the past.

For those of you who don’t know, Impeachment: American Crime Story is going to focus on the 1998 impeachment and scandal surrounding President Bill Clinton and his intern, Monica Lewinsky.

It was a very tumultuous time in the Oval Office, and now, Ryan Murphy is going to tackle this story head-on for his critically acclaimed anthology series, with Lewinsky attached to the project as a producer.

This will be the third installment of American Crime Story, following 2016’s The People v. O. J. Simpson and 2018’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace, which focused on the chaotic trial of O.J. Simpson and the brutal murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace, respectively. Initially, the third season was meant to follow the events of Hurricane Katrina, but in 2019, plans were changed to focus on Impeachment instead.

Edie Falco joins a stellar cast

Falco isn’t the only one to be excited for when it comes to Impeachment: Crime Story. Alongside her, the series has already cast Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky, Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, Betty Gilpin as Ann Coulter, Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones, and Billy Eichner as Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge, according to TVLine.

Talk about one hell of a cast!

Production on Impeachment: American Crime Story began in 2020 but was paused due to a positive COVID-19 test. Luckily, things are back on track as production has resumed, but no premiere date has been announced as of yet. If I had to guess, I think we can assume a fall premiere date as that is when Murphy typically premieres his shows.
