Pose Season 3 will be the show’s last. The acclaimed FX drama is coming to an end with its upcoming third season, which will also be abbreviated. Pose‘s impact cannot be understated, as the trailblazing series gave transgender and LGBTQIA voices a place to be heard in this short, but beloved series.

The groundbreaking FX series followed a found family navigating the queer ballroom scene of Harlem, New York in the 1980s and early 1990s. Per Entertainment Weekly, the decision to end the show after only three, truncated seasons comes directly from co-creator Steven Canals.

While he says the decision to end the show now was “very difficult,” they ultimately “told the story we wanted to tell the way that we wanted to tell it.”

Fans are already upset by the decision, but it does seem like the creators are determined to go out on a high note with the acclaimed series, which has garnered numerous accolades and nominations from the Golden Globe Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards.

He posted a heartfelt message to fans announcing their decision to end the series after only three seasons on Twitter.

Several of the other writers, producers and actors have released personal statements regarding the show’s ending, including Mj Rodriguez, Janet Mock and more.

“My life has been forever changed because of this Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated, Peabody Award-winning drama series that centered trans and queer people, people living with HIV/AIDS, the Ballroom community and Black and Latinx people without trepidation or apology. It’s left an indelible mark on our culture, modeling that a TV show can be successful and entertaining while also casting authentically, hiring LGBTQ+ talent in front of and behind the camera, and moving people living on the margins to centerstage,” wrote Mock in her Instagram post.

When will Pose Season 3 premiere on FX?

The third season, which will only consist of seven episodes (likely due to the pandemic which did affect production) premieres on May 2 with two episodes. The series finale will air on June 6.
