In Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7, “It’s Best You Stop Digging”, the kryptonite poisoning reaches Ryan’s brain and gives her some very vivid, and murderous hallucinations.

But that doesn’t stop Ryan from driving off in the batmobile in this The CW show. The poison makes Ryan remember her mother, Cora Lewis (Shakura S’Aida). But the sweet moments are derailed by memories of her mother’s death. Worse, Ryan keeps seeing Alice in her hallucinations. This Kryptonite is a bad trip!

With her brain on fire, Ryan follows her heart—to Angelique’s place. Of course, Angelique is surprised that Batwoman has landed up on her balcony—and she’s not very forthcoming about Ocean’s whereabouts.

But that’s the least of Ryan’s problems. Angelique has someone over. Kryptonite poisoning or not, Ryan tries to keep it together despite this betrayal to get details on Ocean. Unfortunately, Angelique notices that Batwoman isn’t on top of her game and knocks her over the balcony. So disappointing. We were really rooting for you, Angelique!

Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7 – The Truth About Coryana

Alice had told Safiyah that Ocean was dead, and Safiyah’s right-hand person, Tatiana, arrives for the pick-up. And Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7 starts out with betrayal—Alice dupes Tatiana to find out why Safiyah wiped her and Ocean’s memories.

Tatiana is talkative—with reason. She shares that Alice and Safiyah had a common enemy—Katherine Hamilton. Jacob Kane’s second wife was the reason the family stopped searching for Alice. And Katherine’s interest in the mysterious Desert Rose was a threat to Safiyah and Coryana.

But there’s more. Alice’s escape from her captor inspired Safiyah. Despite being Queen of Coryana, Safiyah feels like a prisoner on her island. So she’s made some rules for everyone who lives on Coryana with her. No leaving. No stealing the Desert Rose. And if Safiyah wants something, she gets it. According to Tatiana, Safiyah wanted Alice’s loyalty—Alice would take Gotham for Safiyah. But Alice? She wanted Ocean.

Though that wasn’t always the case—apparently Alice and Ocean hated each other at first. So, nobody noticed their blossoming romance for a while. The more time they spent sparring, the more they learned about each other and the closer they got.

That’s how we finally get to the bottom of why Safiyah wiped Alice’s memory. It wasn’t just because Ocean and Alice fell in love, but because Safiyah was in love with Alice. So much so, that she told Alice about the origins of the Desert Rose. But that love and loyalty wasn’t reciprocated. So Safiyah got her revenge another way.

Ocean did indeed plan to escape Coryana with the Desert Rose—he was yet another person inspired by Alice’s escape from captivity. She really turned Coryana upside down, didn’t she?

There’s a lot of love happening in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7—Alice accuses Tatiana of being in love with Safiyah, and she’s right. This is the reason Tatiana hates Alice so much.

In typical Tatiana style, she leaves out the most important information about the Alice and Ocean romance. Removing memories isn’t easy—there was collateral damage. Safiyah took away whatever love and humanity Alice felt thanks to Ocean and left behind all the hate and vengeance. That explains why Alice seems so different in Gotham than she did on Coryana. Ugh. Alice and Kate could have been sisters again if not for the mind-wipe. Now I’m angry with Safiyah!

Tatiana surprisingly ends this entire ordeal with her head attached to her body. Alice in fact, plans to head to Coryana for an audience with Safiyah alongside Tatiana. Meanwhile, Ocean takes his leave of Gotham. Anyone else feel like Alice was hoping for a different ending with him?

Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7 – Katherine Hamilton’s Secrets

Jacob Kane and Sophie Moore finally find details about Hamilton Industries’ secret lab in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7. This is the lab where they’ve been experimenting with the Desert Rose serum. Of course, it wasn’t working, as we saw in the previous episode.

Jacob isn’t happy about finding these secrets about his late second wife. It only gets worse once they get to the lab. All the doctors involved have transfused themselves with fake Desert Rose serum-blood. And they’re all dead. Jacob and Sophie are in over their heads.

Despite the dead people, Jacob and Sophie tear through the lab’s office to find the map. But all they find is the casing and inside, the burnt remains of the map and a message—“It’s Best You Stop Digging”.

After the showdown with Angelique earlier on in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7, Luke and Mary manage to rescue Batwoman. Their disguises are hoodies, which is hilarious. And of course, they argue over who gets to drive the batmobile back. To the surprise of no one, Mary wins.

Once Ryan finally feels better—thanks to Mary’s ministrations—she immediately gets to work looking for Ocean. Angelique gave her very little information, but Ryan puts two and two together to find Ocean’s possible location. Though Mary thinks Ryan should rest, without the map to Coryana, Ocean is their best hope to find Kate Kane and take down Alice.

Ryan’s instincts are right and Batwoman gets to confront Alice. She reveals her identity and accuses Alice of killing her mom, but Alice really isn’t interested. Not after the day she’s had. Ryan had a plan but this kryptonite poisoning puts her at a massive disadvantage against Alice.

But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Ryan, it’s that she doesn’t give up. She keeps getting back up and almost kills Alice. The kryptonite is playing games, but it shows Ryan her mom once again. Cora tells Ryan that she didn’t raise a killer. Real or not, Ryan knows that’s what her mom would have said. She lets Alice go, reminding her that everything that’s happened is Alice’s fault. For once, Alice doesn’t agree. After all, Alice has just learned that she wasn’t always this evil.

Luke isn’t happy about Alice getting away, but Ryan knows what she’s doing. She only let Alice go so she could put a tracker on her. Alice is headed to Coryana with Tatiana, and Team-Batwoman will be right behind her to find and save Kate.

Final Thoughts – Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7 is Gory but Gives Us Answers

Batwoman Season 2 Episode 7 ups the gore factor with Ryan’s kryptonite poisoning. And there’s plenty of blood spilled here, so it’s not for the weak of heart.

It’s great to see Ryan get her showdown with Alice. They were pretty evenly matched, which is exciting for future encounters. But I’m holding out hope for some reconciliation following the revelations in this episode.

Alice’s evil streak has always felt out of character for her. Especially since we met Beth Kane from an alternate universe. She was such a nice person, and it seems like that’s how Alice could have been had it not been for Safiyah.

Does that absolve Alice of the crimes she has committed? Pop culture is full of redemption stories and The CW has its fair share. Oliver Queen was a murderer but died a hero. Canary was an assassin but now leads the heroic Legends of Tomorrow. Could Alice be the next villain-to-hero story in the CWVerse? As a twin, I would love to see Alice and Kate become sisters again, so here’s hoping!

This season keeps getting better and better. Sunday nights can’t come sooner.
