Outlander has been renewed for Season 7 at Starz

Outlander has officially snagged a season 7 renewal! Yes, that’s right folks, our favorite time-traveling romance is getting another season, according to TVLine. Given that we’re currently experiencing the longest Droughtlander we may ever have, this is very welcome news.

The cast and crew are currently in Scotland filming the sixth season, after a prolonged delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It took a while to get things up and running but soon enough we’ll have a sixth season to watch, and another to look forward to hopefully soon thereafter.

Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Sophie Skelton (Brianna Fraser), and Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie) broke the Outlander season 7 news on the show’s social media. While answering fan questions inquiring about a renewal, they revealed that the show would return–making our Sunday morning that much brighter.

If you’re a fan of the books, then you may know what it’s in store for the seventh season. Of course, the show always takes liberties to change things up, so it will certainly be a surprise for every Outlander fan!

What will Outlander season 7 be about?

From what we understand, season 7 will be based on An Echo in the Bone, the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s novel series, and will consist of 12 episodes in total. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts released a statement regarding the renewal news, and it’s safe to say they are all very excited.

"We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey. We can’t wait to get into the writers’ room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story."

What is Echo in the Bone about?

Of course, we know that the series often changes things up from Gabaldon’s novels. But even with those changes, day-one fans of the Outlander novels know what to expect from each season, more or less.

For those that haven’t read the books, or are still catching up, then you may not know what stories we can expect from season 7. Since season 6 has not yet aired, we’re looking ahead a bit prematurely, so if you don’t want potential spoilers, go ahead and skip this next part.

. But in any case, here is the synopsis of Echo in the Bone, as written on the Outlander Wiki page.

"An Echo in the Bone is the seventh novel in the Outlander Series of novels by Diana Gabaldon. The adventures of Claire and Jamie Fraser continue in America during the Revolution, joined variously by their nephew Ian Murray, longtime friend Lord John Grey, and Jamie’s illegitimate son, William Ransom. The plot also follows Jamie and Claire’s daughter Brianna and her husband Roger MacKenzie, who have returned to the 20th century with their two children, Jem and Mandy."

Based on that synopsis alone, there is A LOT that may go down in season 6 which will lead into the events of Echo in the Bone–and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
