The Luminaries Season 2: Plot, release date, trailer & more details

Now that The Luminaries has officially aired its season finale, fans are starting to wonder if The Luminaries Season 2 might be on the horizon. Will Starz commission another season of the British-New Zealand series?
Right now, it doesn’t seem likely that The Luminaries Season 2 will happen because the first season was meant to be a complete adaptation of the 2013 novel by Eleanor Catton.
The series followed the love story between Anna Wetherell and Emery Staines, astral twins who get wrapped up in an extraordinary scheme involving gold in Hotika, New Zealand.
If you’ve finished watching the six-episode first season, then you know that the series ended with Anna being found not guilty for Crosbie Wells’s murder and Francis dying. Lydia is left to go free, although she’s lost everything.
What will happen in The Luminaries Season 2?
If The Luminaries returns for another season, it stands to reason that we would see what happens next in Anna and Emery’s chapter. Since Lydia is still out there, she could potentially come back with a new scheme, although I don’t think that’s likely.
I think The Luminaries would work better as something of an anthology series. It would be interesting to see the next season focus on new characters who share a similar connection to the one Emery and Anna had.
When will The Luminaries Season 2 premiere?
Since we don’t even know of The Luminaries will be renewed yet, we can’t accurately predict when the next season would air. However, since the series is a British-New Zealand production, if it does continue, America would have to wait longer to see it since it would probably debut overseas first as it did for the first season.
Starz could buy the rights and produce it in-house, but that doesn’t seem likely. Overall, I think the earliest we would see The Luminaries Season 2 would be 2022.
