American Gods EP Neil Gaiman insists that the show is ‘definitely not dead’
By Mads Lennon
Even though Starz has officially pulled the plug on American Gods, executive producer and the mastermind behind the novel the series is based on, Neil Gaiman, took to Twitter earlier today to reassure fans that the series is “definitely not dead.”
The author thanked the network for everything they’ve done to assist the American Gods journey so far, but then claimed that the company who makes the show, Fremantle, remains “committed to finishing the story that began in episode 1.”
Gaiman’s words aren’t all too surprising since it was already hinted at when the show was initially canceled that they would find a way to bring it to a legitimate close. However, it’s hard not to be skeptical given the amount of backstage drama that has occurred during the show’s three-season run.
From actor walkouts to accusations of racism and a seemingly endless rotation of showrunners, American Gods has been plagued by almost as much off-screen conflict as on-screen. Regardless, I’m sure fans of the series will be happy to hear there are people dedicated to bringing the story to completion.
American Gods Season 4: Is it going to happen?
According to Gaiman, American Gods Season 4 is all but imminent. Although he doesn’t call the show’s continuation a “new season,” it sounds like they’re still trying to figure out where the show will continue and how.
That means we could see a truncated final season, a wrap-up movie or even a continuation in another format, such as a graphic novel or comic book. All of these things have happened before with other shows in the past.
It’ll be interesting to see if any other network or streaming service genuinely wants to swoop in and save American Gods given the backstage turmoil. Perhaps it could go to a free-to-stream app or service like Tubi TV, Roku or even Pluto TV.
