Mare of Easttown Season 1, Episode 1, “Miss Lady Hawk Herself,” finally premieres tonight on HBO at 10:05 p.m. ET/PT after a brand new episode of The Nevers.
The highly-anticipated limited series stars Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective who gets embroiled in a new investigation while trying to maintain balance over her life, which is quickly falling apart.
Like many HBO series, this one has garnered critical acclaim and currently sits at a lofty 89% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes along with the “Certified Fresh” seal. Critics are calling the series the “rare crime drama that feels real,” and praising it as a career-best performance from Winslet.
What’s happening in Mare of Easttown Season 1, Episode 1?
We haven’t been given a whole lot of detail about what’s going to happen in Mare of Easttown, but the first episode will obviously introduce us to Winslet’s character and her family. As Mare struggles to keep her life from falling apart around her, she’ll have to grapple with the sinister details of a local murder.
It has been a while since Winslet has graced the small screen. The last time we saw her was in her Emmy Award-winning performance in the Todd Haynes’ miniseries Mildred Pierce. Well this time, Winslet’s character Mare is a no-nonsense sort of woman with a lot on her plate, including dealing with her ex-husband Frank (Joe Tippett) and her overly critical mother (played by Jean Smart).
There are a lot of different stories to balance here but with Winslet at the center, it’s sure to be a fascinating watch.
