9-1-1 Season 4 is back from its winter hiatus (finally!) and wastes no time getting into the thick of all the chaos. This week’s episode, “Blindsided,” comes with its fair share of turbulent drama, a tragic multi-car pileup, but most importantly, welcomes a new baby into the world.

Yes, that’s right! Congratulations are in order for one of the cutest on-screen couples and a couple that deservedly needed a happy moment to celebrate. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) finally had their baby girl in this week’s winter premiere, but it came during a moment that could have turned into an absolute disaster (more on that in a bit).

During the course of 9-1-1 Season 4 (and the seasons that precede it), we’ve seen Maddie and Chimney go through their own struggles individually, and it certainly hasn’t been easy. Between Maddie’s abusive marriage and Chimney’s near-death experience and then them dealing with Maddie’s pregnancy during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been a long and difficult road.

But they’ve finally found happiness together, and now they have a child together. I’m so excited to see where the series takes their story in the coming days and weeks. Their story is one worth telling, and out of the many fictional couples out there, they are one of my favorites.

And on that note, let’s dive into their exciting (and not so exciting) moments from this week’s episode of 9-1-1 Season 4!

9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 9: A life hangs in the balance

Just as Maddie was delivering her baby into the world, there was something terrifying happening on the highways of Los Angeles. As we see earlier in the episode, a drunk woman drives onto the highway in the wrong direction and causes a multi-car pileup. It’s a frightening mess, but what makes it even worse is that Chimney’s brother, Albert (John Harlan Kim), was one of the many impacted by it.

He was driving by the car going in the wrong direction, and in an attempt to swerve out of the way, Albert’s car flips over. He manages to call 9-1-1 and speaks to May (Corinne Massiah), who helps the first responders locate Albert’s that had veered away from the accident site.

As he’s rushed to the hospital, we see simultaneous moments of Maddie giving birth which feels wonderful and ominous all at the same time. For a moment, it feels that one life may be ending and another beginning.

As fate would have it (and the writers of 9-1-1), Albert manages to survive! It’s a relief in many ways, but especially for Chimney, who couldn’t imagine welcoming his baby girl while saying goodbye to the brother he’s finally connected with.

9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 9: Welcome to the world, baby girl!

The happiest moment of this week’s episode is watching Maddie and Chimney welcome their baby girl into the world. While Albert’s life hung in the balance, seeing these two finally get something to celebrate and be happy about it is everything we could have asked for.

But what makes the whole moment absolutely perfect is learning that Maddie has named their baby daughter, Jee-Yun, after Chimney’s mother. It’s such a beautiful way to honor her love for Chimney, and it feels just right given everything that happens with Albert during the episode.

I know I can’t say it enough, but I love these two together, and I’m so excited to see where this relationship and this new chapter in their lives take them. Give us more Chimney, Maddie, and Jee-Yun, please!
