Shadow and Bone Season 2: Plot, release date, & more

Did you spend the weekend binge-watching Shadow and Bone? If so, you might be eager to find out what’s going on with Shadow and Bone Season 2. The first season is merely the beginning of the vast and comprehensive Grishaverse created by book series author Leigh Bardugo.

Bardugo also serves as the executive producer on the adaptation to use elements from the first book, Shadow and Bone, and the Six of Crows duology to create an updated version of the story.

Shadow and Bone has already taken over social media and it’d be very surprising if Netflix decided not to move forward with Shadow and Bone Season 2. Not only did the show get rave reviews from critics, but devout books fans have also been singing its praises.

In the final moments of the finale, we see Kirigan emerges from the Fold along with the volcra, who never thought they could leave the Fold in the past. And now Kirigan seems to have gained a new ability as he uses a mental command to control the volcra.

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, Bardugo said, “He has suffered the first defeat in a very long time at the hands of somebody who he really believed he understood and had under his control. So, I think we’re going to see a real reckoning, if we get to see that reckoning.”

Showrunner Eric Heisserer told The Wrap that all of our favorite characters are in for a rude awakening if the show returns.

“I think everybody thinks [the Darkling] is dead. So you’ve got a big surprise in store for a lot of people,” he says.

"“I would love to entertain all those delicious thoughts, but I need to have the privilege of being able to return. So right now, I am essentially in the Crow Club and I put all my chips on Season 1, hoping that people engage with it in the way that we hope they do.”"

When will Shadow and Bone Season 2 premiere?

Big shows like Shadow and Bone take a while to create. Some of Netflix’s other projects in the same genre, like The Umbrella Academy and The Witcher have taken more than a year to be created, so I wouldn’t anticipate seeing Shadow and Bone Season 2 premiere until very late in 2022 or, more likely, sometime in 2023.

The good news for fans is that Shadow and Bone has tons of material to draw from in the future with multiple books, short stories and two separate duologies.
