Nine Perfect Strangers: Welcome to Tranquillum House

The first teaser for Hulu’s highly anticipated adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2018 novel Nine Perfect Strangers is here. Released yesterday, the teaser gives fans a glimpse of Nicole Kidman’s turn as the intense, eccentric wellness guru Masha who runs a 10-day retreat.

At Tranquillum House, 10 city-dwelling guests comprised of A-list stars like Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, Samara Weaving and Bobby Cannavale will have their lives fundamentally altered by the end of their retreat.

“You want to get well? You want to heal? Surrender yourself to me. We are on the precipice of something great,” Masha promises.

Of course, not everything at Tranquillum House is as it seems and the guests will soon discover that Masha’s methods are unorthodox, at best.

Hulu has yet to announce an official premiere date for the series, leaving the trailer with a simple “coming soon” message at the end. I’m guessing the show is going to air sometime in the summer, so maybe a late May or June timeframe.

Should you read Nine Perfect Strangers before watching the show?

You don’t need to read the book before the series releases, but it’s a great book. If you’re a fan of Moriarty’s other works, such as her acclaimed novel Big Little Lies, you might consider picking it up to pass the time until the series gets an official release date.

And speaking of Big Little Lies, for those unaware, Nine Perfect Strangers shares a creator in David E. Kelly, also reuniting him with Kidman who starred in the HBO series and won an Emmy Award for her performance.
