The Thorn faces serious cutbacks in Shrill Season 3, Episode 1.

While things are going okay for Annie right now, the same cannot be said for all of her co-workers at The Thorn. The only way for the paper to stay afloat is to lay off a lot of people and make some serious cutbacks. Glenn being Glenn, he doesn’t want to be responsible for doing the hard stuff. He’d rather be the fun dad while shouldering Amani with the burden of being “mean mom.” So, when Annie arrives at the office, it’s to find a tense atmosphere after Amani has given several people their new, significantly less, hours.

The only people not affected by the new rules are Amani and Annie, whose work is still bringing in The Thorn lots of new clicks. Just when you think the morale can’t get any lower, Glenn decides to take this awful situation to announce that a major publishing house has picked up his new memoir. Good news for Glenn, not for anyone else in the room, which Amani makes clear. “Amani, we’re a team, my financial success is everyone’s financial success!” Except no one else gets to share in your royalties, Glenn!
