Batwoman Season 2, Episode 13 recap: Secrets and truths
By Louis Skye
In Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13, ‘I’ll Give You a Clue’ introduces a fan-favorite DC Comics character and ramps up the tension between Team-Batwoman and the Crows.
This CW show has introduced a plethora of amazing characters from the comics over its two seasons, and it’s interesting to see new dynamics emerge with every one of them.
However, this episode does get a bit dark and real when it comes to depictions of drug addiction. Having been warned by Sophie, Mary finally realizes that her father is addicted to Snakebite.
But it’s already too late. By the end of this episode, Jacob has OD-ed on Snakebite and will be needing Mary’s help to survive. What will this mean for the leader of the Crows?
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 recap: Who’s Afraid of Black Mask?
Black Mask is just as interested in finding Batwoman as she is to find him in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13. That’s apparently why he’s keeping Alice prisoner. He wants Batwoman’s identity, and he’s ready to torture Alice for it.
But Alice gets away and knocks Circe out. The person she calls for a rescue? Her father, Jacob Kane. Except, Jacob is so lost in his Snakebite-riddled world, he refuses to believe his actual daughter is calling him. Circe once again captures Alice.
In the meantime, we know Alice is many things, including being particularly resourceful. She gets the masked Circe to reveal that she is Circe Sionis and didn’t die in the Arkham stampede.
Of course, Circe’s slip means Alice now knows that Black Mask is Roman Sionis. Alice also knows that Roman wants her to use her ‘tailoring’ skills to make Circe a new face.
Alice does the work and creates a face for Circe, but she knows something’s up. She saw the real Circe die in Arkham. And the picture she’s been given by Roman is of a girl with brown eyes, not blue.
It’s only when Alice gets up close to Circe to put the face on that she sees the truth. The blue eyes staring back at her are just like Jacob Kane’s. This isn’t Circe Sionis. This is Alice’s twin sister, Kate Kane.
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 recap: Girl in a Box
Batwoman is so close to getting Black Mask’s location in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13, but Agent Tavaroff and his Crows try to apprehend her. They’re just bad at their job—as Batwoman reminds them before escaping Tavaroff’s grasp.
Ryan accidentally crashes Mary and Sophie’s dinner, and things get very interesting. Ryan’s never hidden her dislike for ‘Crowphie.’ But they’re both Mary’s friends, not to mention, Ryan is Mary’s roommate. Mary needs Sophie and Ryan to get along, somehow, if only for a night.
Sophie makes an effort during their drinking game when all three ladies reveal a lot about each other. It’s also a way for Sophie to get Ryan to reveal she’s Batwoman, but the plot doesn’t quite work. These two are going to have to talk it out soon, or there will be trouble.
Sophie, Mary and Ryan’s party is interrupted when Ryan discovers a clue left by Arthur Brown/ Cluemaster. Five years ago, Sophie Moore put the supervillain Cluemaster away, presumably for good. A great start to her career as a Crow. But now, he’s back and sending very cryptic clues to Sophie to save the innocent citizens of Gotham.
Cluemaster is obsessed with getting back at Sophie. He believes himself the smartest person around—how could Sophie have cracked his clue and caught him? She didn’t. She got a call on the tip line, and a young girl gave her the answer.
Who was this girl? Sophie, Mary, and Ryan are about to find out. When they figure out Cluemaster’s newest clues, they find a glass box with Cluemaster’s daughter, Stephanie Brown, locked inside.
Fans of DC Comics will recognize this name. Stephanie Browne now goes by the superhero name Spoiler. But she was once a Robin and later a Batgirl. Fans can rejoice now!
Stephanie is panicked, seeing as her dad poisoned her and the only way out of her cage is for her three saviors to solve yet another clue. Ryan and Sophie manage to put their differences aside and do it. But Cluemaster isn’t finished yet.
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 recap: Trivia Night!
Cluemaster has covered Stephanie in a cipher. She’s going to need help figuring this one out since she can’t see all of it. Luke is brought in, and after some mental sparring with fellow nerd Stephanie, they decipher the clues. Unfortunately, since it may take some time, Sophie decides to investigate the place where it all started.
Cluemaster’s criminal origin story began when he went on a killing spree after a stint on a quiz show. The set is, of course, rigged to explode. And Ryan and Mary are standing on it. They successfully manage to beat Cluemaster’s quiz to earn more time, but they’re still in danger in Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13.
The only person who can help is Luke. Except Luke is knocked out by Stephanie. It’s the first thing she did when she finally deciphered her father’s code. But why?
Meanwhile, Sophie gets fed up with waiting for Ryan and Mary to tell her the truth, even though their lives are at stake. She finally reveals that she knows Ryan is Batwoman.
This is not what Ryan wanted because she hates Sophie. But with her and Mary trapped, and Luke out for the count, Sophie’s the only one able to go to the Batcave and get the resources they need to free themselves.
Stephanie follows her dad’s clues to her childhood home, where he’s waiting for her. She tells him Sophie didn’t crack his clue—that his own daughter effectively put him away for life. All it earns her is Cluemaster trying to kill the both of them.
Fortunately, Luke manages to get there in time and saves Stephanie and Cluemaster. Cluemaster is arrested once again. And Sophie gets the grapple gun from the Batcave for Ryan and Mary to escape. Does this mean Sophie’s going to be a part of Team-Batwoman? I really hope so!
Final Thoughts on Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13
I am thrilled that Sophie and Ryan are finally able to team up. Their history isn’t great, and there will be some animosity because of it. But at least there are no more secrets.
I’m also relieved that Alice has figured out that Circe is actually Kate. But Kate is still brainwashed into believing she’s Roman’s daughter. Will Alice be able to bring her out of it? I want these twins to be happy together!
Every episode of this season has been a joy to watch. There are so many emotions at play. The character beats have been on point. Sundays really can’t come fast enough.
