Girls5eva Season 1, Episode 2 recap: D’wasg
By Mads Lennon
Now that Girls5eva has officially reunited, they struggle to decide on their next big move. In Girls5eva Season 1, Episode 2, the women must work together to plan their next concert post-Fallon.
The first thing they need to do is find a way to channel their inner “d’wasg,” a word they made up to describe the electric feeling they need to prepare for a show; it comprises the first initials of each girl’s name. You know you’ve got your d’wasg going when you get goosebumps, or chicken nipples, as Gloria calls them.
When Gloria, Wickie, Dawn and Summer get together to plan their next performance, they realize it’s harder than they thought. In the past, their jerk manager Larry scheduled everything, albeit poorly. He shuffled them on stage at a Santa Claus meet-and-greet for their first performance without even approving it with security.
Wickie realizes the best way for them to get back out there is to return to the mall where they started and live stream the performance on Instagram, with their end goal being to secure an invite to Jingle Ball, an epic music concert they almost performed at in their hey-day before getting bumped at the last second.
The ladies get dressed up and ready to perform, with Dawn’s brother Nick escorting them to the mall. On the way there, they try to practice and get the d’wasg flowing, but something isn’t working. Dawn realizes it’s the absence of Larry who would usually say something really mean to each of them before a performance, so they went out there and felt like they had to prove themselves.
Instead of cutting each other down, Dawn recommends they each try to envision some epic goal they hope happens from their reunion, and it works! They sound great. Sadly, the mall isn’t what they expected. The entire place is dead, killed by e-commerce, according to the lone lady guard left to monitor the debris. Kids have ransacked the place and played paintball in the empty halls.
But Wickie is undeterred, especially when she realizes the acoustics are fantastic. So the performance goes on as planned, and Girls5eva sounds fantastic! The guard records it for them, and more than 1,000 fans tune in to Instagram Live. Even the kids showing up to hit them all with paintballs isn’t enough to ruin their post-performance glow.
Girls5eva Season 1, Episode 2 recap: Wickie’s grand piano Ghislaine causes problems
For now, Wickie is staying with Dawn until she finds her own place, and that means she has some of her essentials shipped from Los Angeles to make her stay more comfortable. One of those “essentials” is her clear-glass grand piano Ghislaine (“it was a pretty name years ago.”)
Not only does Dawn’s husband, Scott, and his poor friend with his “cycling arms” struggle to carry the grand piano up to their apartment, but it immediately takes up way too much space. Plus, there is the running gag of the piano being almost invisible and seemingly always on the move because it’s made of glass. Even a bird immediately runs into and dies when curbside delivery drops it off.
Scott puts his foto down about the piano. It’s got to go. At least, that’s how he feels at first until he sees Dawn and Wickie sitting together, harmonizing and singing. He takes Dawn aside and tells her that he’s actually fine with it and everything if it means seeing his wife happy.
Speaking of, Dawn and Wickie excitedly prepare to show Dawn the performance on his Instagram when they find out the video has been blocked for copyright content. Yep, it’s Larry’s doing!

- Summer’s relationship with her husband Kev is so tragic, to the point she even buys a Cameo from him to make it look like he wishes her good luck on her performance.
