Prodigal Son, Pitch and 17 shows canceled too soon at FOX

14. Filthy Rich
Both Fox dramas Filthy Rich and Next could fit on this list of canceled Fox shows, but I’m focusing on Filthy Rich, which I think was the stronger of the two. For starters, you can’t go wrong with Kim Cattrall. While Filthy Rich wasn’t quite the campy, soapy delight I was hoping for, it had a lot of potential to grow into it, similar to The CW’s Dynasty.
It’s a shame that Fox didn’t give it a chance to go beyond one season. However, it might not have been entirely the network’s fault as Variety exclusively reported rising production costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic were a significant part of the decision. Some things are beyond a network’s control, and if the budget wouldn’t allow the show to continue, there’s not much that can be done.
13. Star
Star was a spin-off of Fox’s hit musical series Empire. But over the years, as Empire went on a steady decline in quality, Star blossomed. Eventually, most fans of the franchise preferred Star to Empire. But Fox suddenly canceled it after three seasons, leaving fans with a massive cliffhanger.
Creator Lee Daniels said that the show would get an epic two-hour movie to wrap everything up, but that report was made in 2019, before the pandemic. At this point, it’s hard to see the movie still happening, especially as the cast has likely moved on to greener pastures.
