Is the Netflix comedy Derry Girls returning for Season 3?

The question of the hour is will Derry Girls be returning to Netflix for a third season? With two seasons of utter hilarity established, you’d think there’s more in the future for Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle, and James.

The group has been through some of the most outrageous and imaginative situations possible taking place in 1990’s Derry, Northern Ireland. Not even Erin’s family is spared from out-of-the-blue, funny, and oddly creative circumstances.

Like most television shows, filming was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately, Derry Girls is one of them. According to the Looper article, Derry Girls Season 3 Release Date, Cast And Plot – What We Know So Far, Nicola Coughlin who plays Clare on the show (Penelope Featherington on Bridgerton) is quoted saying, “We’re still waiting, because it’s integral to the show that we film in Derry.”

Filming will be occurring this year however there has yet to be a premiere date.

Our favorite Derry Girls will be returning for another season on Netflix but the premiere date remains unknown.

To quickly summarize during the Season 2 finale James, Michelle’s English-born cousin decides to stay at Derry claiming that he is indeed a Derry Girl all the while President Clinton is about to take the stage. The finale was heartwarming, to say the least as James chooses his friends and new home over returning to England with his mother and Clinton provides a very powerful speech.

So where does this leave our main characters in Season 3? Will James gain actual respect from the group?

That is anyone’s guess.
