A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 14 recap: United Front
By Ariba Bhuvad
A Million Little Things Season 3 addresses the topic of divorce and the difficulties a couple goes through especially when children are involved. While I can’t speak from personal experience, I found the way they maneuvered through Eddie’s (David Giuntoli) and Katherine’s (Grace Park) decision to do therapy quite commendable.
Many couples choose to go to therapy to save their marriage, but here things were different. It may not be a conventional way to go about things, but it is respectful that they are doing it so they can help Theo through this life change together.
This week’s episode is also big for Sophie (Lizzy Greene), who begins to face the reality of her assault. The confrontation of it within herself comes about in an unexpected way, but I think it’s going to really kick things up a notch as we head into the finale and the next season.
Emotions were running high on this week’s episode of A Million Little Things Season 3, so let’s break down all the major moments below!
A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 14: Tyrell gets grounded
After attending the Black Lives Matter protest in honor of George Floyd, Tyrell (Adam Swain) is enthusiastic about continuing to participate. However, it’s coming at the expense of his schooling, and that isn’t settling well with Rome (Romany Malco).
Despite telling Tyrell to take school seriously so he can make major changes in the future, Rome is unable to get Tyrell to listen. It’s hard to blame Tyrell for trying to get out there and make change happen. History lessons in school aren’t always representative of what actually happened, or often look over racial groups and their profound history.
That is the problem Tyrell has with “wasting time” at school. He’d rather be out there in the real world trying to make a change. He saw Regina (Christina Moses) get shoved by a police officer and hit her head on the pavement, and that image hasn’t left his mind.
Rome, being the great guy he is, figures out a way to give Tyrell what he wants while fulfilling his school obligations. Not to mention, it sort of serves as a punishment for Tyrell who has officially been grounded for the first time.
The passion within Tyrell is clear, and so Rome decides they are going to make a documentary–and Tyrell is going to be the assistant director.
A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 14: Sophie faces the truth
Sophie returns from her trip to France and self-quarantines until it’s safe for her to interact with others. Maggie (Allison Miller) drops by to keep her company, and they play Mad Libs together–with Sophie inside of her room and Maggie sitting outside of it.
Things seem to be on the mend after Sophie’s assault, but she’s jolted back to the reality of it when one of her closest friends tells her she got into Harvard. Sophie walked away from her MMI audition, which took place two days after the assault. But being reminded of that makes Sophie regress a bit.
She’s even declared that she is taking an “artistic break” because even the idea of picking up her instruments brings her back to the memory of Peter (Andrew Leeds). Maggie helps her over that speedbump when she indirectly gets Sophie to help her out with a theme song for her podcast.
Things are going pretty well, and Sophie is even singing and playing her guitar again. However, when her ex shows up with friendship flowers (that’s a thing?) and tells her Danny (Chance Hurstfield) told him about what happened with Peter.
Sophie’s humiliation tells us everything, and it makes something snap within her. Luckily, Maggie is always there with sound advice and tells Sophie that she doesn’t need to rush through her pain. Just because she doesn’t have a name for it doesn’t mean what happened to her is any less severe than anything else.
This conversation sparks something within Sophie, and she goes to apologize to the head of MMI. She even shares that she was assaulted two days before the audition hence why she was so off on that day. Sadly, she won’t get another chance to audition, but she’s welcome to return next year for auditions (and she’s going to kill it when she does).
On her way out, the MMI lady mentions Peter’s glowing recommendation for Sophie and tells her there is one student that comes through Peter every year. There was one bright student named Layla Gregory who was a rising star at the school, but she died some months before.
Upon further inspection, Sophie learns that Layla committed suicide, alerting her to the fact that what happened with her has likely happened with other people. Peter is probably hurting a lot of people, and I think we’re going to see Sophie do something about it and put an end to it.
A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 14: Regina’s memory
After her protest incident, Regina hasn’t been feeling 100%. She’s forgetting things, confusing things, and can’t seem to figure out what the heck is going on. Given she hit her head, it’s likely something neurological is going on, but I sure hope it’s something that can be taken care of.
Apart from feeling a bit lost and fuzzy, Regina spends the day with Florence (Karen Robinson) at Someday, learning Florence’s family recipes. Florence’s addition to Regina and Rome’s family is absolutely adorable, and I love how easily she’s fit in with them.
But there is one person who is struggling with this new addition–Regina’s mom, Shelly (Romy Rosemont). She wanted to spend the day with Regina, but when Regina says she has plans with Florence, Shelly crashes and decides to join anyway.
It’s awkward to see Shelly’s discomfort, but the main struggle comes with her trying to tell Regina to expose herself less when it comes to the Black Lives Matter movement. She doesn’t feel like it’s going to help her very much, and she just wants her to be safe.
A mother/daughter argument breaks out, but it was quite necessary because it put them on the same page of how to work on their relationship. Plus, with Regina’s health issues, she’s going to need her mom now more than ever.
A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 14: Theo learns the truth
Eddie and Katherine go to therapy this week to figure out a game plan on how to tell Theo they’re getting divorced. The plan backfires when Darcy’s (Floriana Lima) son accidentally tells Theo what’s happening.
They rush home to be by his side, and I must say he takes it in stride. His heart is completely broken, but he embraces his parents instead of lashing out at them. My heart melted and broke for their little family who is about to face some drastic changes.
And then there’s that little fact that Katherine doesn’t seem too keen on letting Eddie share custody of Theo…
Only time will tell how that is going to play out!
This episode was an emotional doozy, wasn’t it?
