A Million Little Things Season 3 proves to be quite emotional this week as Sophie (Lizzy Greene) faces her trauma with Maggie’s (Allison Miller) help, and Eddie (David Giuntoli) and Katherine (Grace Park) figure out their custody situation with Theo (Tristan Byon).

It’s a very emotional episode all around this week on “Not Alone”, and I must admit, I was tearing up on more than one occasion. Every character has had their share of struggles, and there’s something to be said about the immense character development we’ve seen in just this season alone.

Not to mention, A Million Little Things Season 3 has covered some very difficult topics including racism, assault, and COVID-19. It’s more than what we get storywise from just one season, but I will commend the series for going above and beyond, and doing it in a spectacular fashion.

There’s quite a bit to discuss from this week’s episode so let’s not waste another minute and get right into the recap!

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 15: Rome and Tyrell’s documentary

Rome (Romany Malco) and Tyrell (Adam Swain) get started on their documentary about the Black Lives Matter movement during this week’s episode. It’s a bonding experience between foster father and foster son and a beautiful one at that.

Tyrell even opens up and reveals that Rome is the first male figure to actually show up for him. If that didn’t have you sobbing by the end of the episode, then I’m not sure what else would. It was an absolutely heartwarming episode, especially because Rome has wanted to be a father for so long. It’s nice to see the series give him that opportunity, and I’m glad they chose to do it this way.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, Rome has been experiencing a lot of emotions and watching Tyrell experience them as well. But making this documentary and interviewing members of the Black community has been incredibly therapeutic. Even more so once Rome realizes that their documentary should be about the emotional toll that systemic racism has on the Black community.

Given how important mental health is to Rome, this is the perfect subject for him to focus on alongside Tyrell.

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 15: Regina’s health scare

Ever since getting hurt at the protest, Regina (Christina Moses) has been feeling out of sorts. She’s forgetting things, getting distracted, and tunes in and out of conversations. She confides in her mom (Romy Rosemont) that something isn’t right so she promptly gets Gina an appointment with a neurologist, Dr. Anton (Paul McGillion).

Instead of listening to Gina’s concerns, he simply asks her to remember eight words and then recall them two minutes later. She gets six of the eight, and that’s enough to convince him that all is well with her. She asks to have a CT scan done, but the doctor tells her to just follow up in two weeks.

Well, Gina’s mother wasn’t going to have that and tells the doctor that he better listen to Gina because she’s his patient and she feels like something is off. It’s his job to be there for her unless of course, he wants to put it into his notes that she asked him to get a scan done and he refused.

Fortunately, the scan didn’t reveal any abnormalities, but that wasn’t the answer Gina was hoping for. She knows she feels off, and with nothing coming up on the scan, it means she has to wait it out. At least she finally told Rome what’s going on!

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 15: Sophie faces the truth

After learning about another girl that may have potentially been assaulted by Peter (Andrew Leeds), Sophie decides to talk to her family. Layla committed suicide some months back, and Sophie has a reason to believe that it could be from the assault she experienced.

Maggie is there as a support for Sophie the entire way and suggests that Sophie channel all that energy and frustration into something she can control. She decides to pick up running just like Maggie did when she was first diagnosed with cancer. But on her first run, Sophie stops by the Gregory household to talk to Layla’s parents.

The conversation is going great at first as Layla’s parents share stories about her and her musical interests. But when Sophie tries to shift the conversation and find out if Layla ever mentioned Peter doing something to her. And it looks like she never did because her parents had no inkling of what Sophie was talking about.

The mother gets offended that Sophie would even imply that something like that happened to her daughter, and says that she would have known if something like that happened. She asks Sophie to leave and she rushes out of the house in fear.

Later in the day, Layla’s dad stops by the Dixon household to give Sophie her wallet back because she left it at the house when she rushed out. He confides in Maggie revealing that after Sophie’s visit, he went back to read Layla’s diary. In one of her entries, she wrote that she didn’t want him to see her in her bathing suit. Her parents always assumed she was talking about some boy she liked, but thinking back, the entry was made in November. And there would be no reason why she’d be wearing her bathing suit in November, unless, of course, Peter had something to do with it.

A Million Little Things Season 3, Episode 15: Eddie and Katherine talk custody

Eddie meets with a divorce lawyer, with Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) by his side for moral support. He wants to know what he can do when it comes to the custody of Theo, and together they decide that if they can make accommodating for Eddie’s wheelchair, then Katherine will be more open to letting him get partial custody. That would include moving into a single-story house and getting his van equipped with disability features so he can drive it.

Katherine, however, isn’t concerned about Eddie’s wheelchair, but she doesn’t trust him to take care of Theo on his own due to his addiction. He might be sober now but what about in a month, or a year, or a few years down the line? She has a point, and it’s a fair one at that.

Gary makes an executive decision on behalf of Eddie and suggests a plan to make the whole custody thing work. He asks Maggie to move into Delilah’s house to watch the kids until she gets back, and he’ll move back home and have Eddie move in with him.

That way, Theo can come stay with Eddie, but it wouldn’t be Eddie on his own. It’s a win-win situation for all, and once again with that, Gary proves he’s basically the best friend ever!
