When will Shadow and Bone Season 2 premiere?

We’ve got some great news for Shadow and Bone fans; Shadow and Bone Season 2 is officially happening at Netflix! Based on the best-selling Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone became an instant success when it hit Netflix this past April.

The first adapted the first book of the main trilogy, with a few changes to suit a television show. Season 1 followed the war-ravaged country of Ravaka and focused on characters like Alina Starkov (Jessie mei Lei) and General Kirigan (Ben Barnes). Throughout the first season, Alina starts to discover more about her abilities and the secrets that are tearing Ravaka apart.

The Season 1 finale left off with some sizable cliffhangers, so, understandably, fans have been anxiously awaiting confirmation of the show’s second season. Today, the cast shared a cute video confirming the announcement, and reports suggest that the second season has already been written.

Most likely, the next season will follow the second book in the trilogy, titled Siege and Storm. But the first season also integrated characters from the spin-off book series, Six of Crows, which makes sense considering how popular they are. I’m guessing we’ll continue to see more of those characters and maybe even more elements from the spin-off leading into the sophomore season.

But now that we know the second season is happening, the next big question is when we might see it premiere on the streaming service. The first season debuted this April, so we can probably expect the second season to stay on track for next year.

That said, Shadow and Bone is a fantasy show with a decent-sized budget and sometimes shows like these take longer to film because there are more elements to keep track of, and a lot goes on in post-production with CGI. Also, in general, Netflix shows don’t operate on the same schedule as broadcast, so it could be that we end up having to wait a little longer for Season 2. I would anticipate we’ll see it by next summer, though!
