Grand Army is another one and done show at Netflix

Netflix has canceled yet another show after just one season. Teen drama Grand Army will not be returning for another season at the streaming service, Variety reports.

The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise given the show didn’t seem to make as big of a splash as one might expect, but it did maintain a positive critical score at Rotten Tomatoes with 71% approval. No specific reason was given for the cancellation, but one can assume Grand Army didn’t bring in the viewing numbers Netflix had hoped.

The series was loosely based on Katie Cappiello’s project Slut: The Play, focusing on five different teenagers from distinct lifestyles and the way they fight to break out from their circumstances at a Brooklyn high school.

One of the more prominent storylines in the first season dealt with a character’s sexual assault by two guys she’d thought were her best friends. Beyond that, the series did struggle to find anything new and inventive to say that hasn’t already been done before in the same way in other teen dramas.

The cast was led by Odessa A’zion, Odley Jean, Amir Bageria, Maliq Johnson, Amalia Yoo, Alphonso Romero Jones II, Brittany Adebumola and Crystal Sha’re Nelson.

Could Grand Army be shopped to another network?

There is no word yet on the details behind the show’s cancellation, which also means we don’t know if the writers and producers are trying to shop it around to other streaming services. Only one show has been saved by Netflix by another network thus far, and that was One Day at a Time.

Chances are, Grand Army will be a one-and-done series, especially as the news has taken so long to release but it’s possible that could change later.
