Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 4 recap: Scene of the Crime
By Ariba Bhuvad
Why Women Kill Season 2 continues this week as Alma (Allison Tolman) goes above and beyond to impress the ladies of the garden club. Watching Alma over the course of four episodes has revealed a great deal about the person she is.
She’s insecure, unsatisfied, and feels like no one actually sees who she is. As a result, she’s desperately trying to appeal to the one group of people she thinks will give her the confidence to stand out. Of course, not all of these women have the best intentions but Alma can’t see past that.
In this week’s episode, we see her literally do whatever it takes to impress the ladies who she is informed are making a surprise drop-by visit. Embarrassed with the life she currently lives, Alma decides to break into Mrs. Yost’s house to steal valuables.
Mrs. Yost was a woman of sophisticated taste so Alma decides bringing all of her nice things into their home would impress the ladies. They’d never know it wasn’t hers, but all of that is easier said than done. To find out how Alma pulls it off and what else goes down in this week’s episode of Why Women Kill Season 2, read below!
Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 4 recap: The Garden Club
Nothing is more important to Alma than securing a place in the Garden Club. She idolizes the women beyond belief, especially Rita (Lana Parrilla). When she finds out they are going to make a surprise visit, Alma begins to panic. How will she make her house look presentable?
Given that Mrs. Yost is not ever going to return to her house, Alma decides it won’t be a big deal if she just hops over there and takes some of her things. Mrs. Yost had a beautiful home filled with expensive things so since she won’t be needing them anymore, why not just borrow them?
Bertram (Nick Frost) isn’t crazy about the idea but since he’s murdered people, he doesn’t have much leeway to create a fuss. He helps Alma transfer over a lot of Mrs. Yost’s belongings, including a painting of Paris that she wants to use to cover a hole in the wall.
Eventually, the ladies make their way over and Alma tries to pretend that she is just like them. Rita sees through the facade right away but she and Alma end up bonding over their honesty. Similar to Alma, Rita didn’t come from a wealthy upbringing, shd had to steal and take things to get to where she is today. She sees that drive in Alma now.
It looks like Alma is totally in the Garden Club! Well, at least she was.
Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 4 recap: The truth almost surfaces
While the ladies are over, Alma and Bertram run into a slight problem. Well, a major problem. Mrs. Yost’s dog gets into Alma’s flowers, in the very same area where they buried Mrs. Yost’s body. Since she wasn’t buried too deep into the ground, it wasn’t hard to dig her body up.
While Alma distracted the ladies and tied up the dog, Bertram quickly threw some fertilizer over the body. Not sure that will be a long-term solution especially with the police now sniffing around. This, by the way, happens during Alma’s grand renovation of her home. They show up inquiring about Mrs. Yost because they found her car, but Alma does her best to throw their scent off.
It’s only a matter of time before this couple is caught for what they did, but I have a feeling things will end up happening a little differently by the end of the season. Perhaps, she’ll pin the blame on Bertram? That would be sweet, sweet revenge, wouldn’t it?
Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 4 recap: Scooter, Vern, and Dee
Just as Rita decides with the rest of the Garden Club ladies to give Alma a seat in their group, Rita learns a startling truth. Dee (B.K. Cannon) is actually Alma’s daughter and is the same woman that has been hooking up with Scooter (Matthew Daddario). Sorry, Alma, you were so close.
Speaking of Dee, we see her switch her sights from Scooter to Vern (Jordane Christie) during this episode. You see, Scooter basically ditched her for Rita, and Vern was there for her during a difficult time.
Dee is quick to expedite her and Vern’s relationship from hanging out as friends to calling herself “his girl”. But Vern has been scorned in the past, especially after returning from war and being dumped by his girl back then. But Dee isn’t ready to give up on him, not after the way he’s treated her so nicely.
Time will tell how this relationship will progress especially with the messy, tangled web that has been weaved unbeknownst to Dee. Her parent’s secret, Rita’s connection with Scooter which will now affect her mother’s chances of getting into the club, and so on and so forth.
It’s getting messy on Why Women Kill Season 2–and we’re here for every second of it!
Alma gives a whole new meaning to trying to fit in with the cool kids.
