In Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 9, “Bounty Lost,” Clone Force 99 must leave behind one of their own. But if there’s one thing we know about this team, they always come back.

The Disney Plus show has finally hit its stride over the last few episodes and it’s showing in the quality of the episodes. The plots are more focused and we have a better idea of what part each character has to play.

Thus far, Omega had functioned like an audience stand-in, albeit with a lot more to do. The audience has been given an inkling about her uniqueness—after all, there aren’t many children wandering around Kamino.

Now we know why Omega was the only child and why there are so many bounty hunters after her. But what happens next?

The last time we saw Omega, the infamous bounty hunter, Cad Bane had captured her. In Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 9, Omega uses her wits to ingratiate with Cad’s put-upon droid, Todo 360 (Seth Green).

Todo was damaged in Cad’s fight with Hunter, and Omega leverages her mechanical skills as a way to get out of her cell. Then she deactivates Todo and searches for her comm device.

Meanwhile, Cad reports his success to the person who hired him, none other than Lama Su (Bob Bergen), Prime Minister of Kamino. Lama Su is pleased to know Cad has Omega and dispatches Taun We (Rena Owen) to pick her up. Nala Se does not look pleased.

The moment Cad lands on the rendezvous planet, Omega escapes. She manages to get a long-range signal to the Marauder but she doesn’t know what planet she’s on. Tech advises Omega on how to boost a signal that they can track. But Cad finds Omega first.

Once Cad has Omega, he prepares to meet Taun We, and get a whole bunch of credits. That’s going to have to wait. Because Taun We is lying on the floor, very dead. Who killed her?

Cad Bane isn’t the only bounty hunter Omega needs to worry about in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 9. Taun We lost her life to none other than Fennec Shand. With the credits in hand, Fennec isn’t much bothered with what happens to Omega. Or is she?

Todo throws a damper on things by stealing the credits—then promptly gets knocked out a window, thus losing all the credits. Well, there’s no time to cry over spilled credits because Omega’s escaped both bounty hunters.

As Omega travels deeper into the spooky station, she comes across a very unusual room. The huge green pods have inhabitants—strange creatures with lifeless eyes. Omega doesn’t know what they are and she’s probably better off not knowing.

The room does give Omega a way to signal Clone Force 99, and she once again escapes from the hunters. As Omega heads to Cad’s ship, Cad and Fennec face off. They’re formidable fighters and neither gives an inch. It takes them playing dirty to win, and even that doesn’t work.

Omega steals an escape pod but the gases surrounding the planet scramble the censors. It’s looking bad when the ship gets tractor beamed… by the Marauder! Clone Force 99 are relieved to be whole again—as whole as they can be without the traitor Crosshair.

Once they’re reunited, Omega learns the truth about why the Kaminoans are after her. While she was missing, Tech did some digging into Omega’s genes and found that she was a pure first-generation clone. In other words, Omega is Jango Fett’s daughter and Boba’s sister.

That’s why the Kaminoans want her—once they get a substantial amount of DNA from Omega, they can dispose of her and still be able to create more clones.

Cad was meant to bring Omega to Lama Su for the extraction process. We also finally find out who hired her Fennec, Nala Se! She doesn’t even want Fennec to bring Omega back—she just wants Fennec to get in everyone else’s way and keep Omega away from Kamino.

And she’s going to have help. Hunter promises Omega that she will never have to return to Kamino, definitely not as long as Clone Force 99 is around. Can he keep this promise?

Final Thoughts – Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 9 Changes the Galaxy Again

I’m not sure how other people will feel about Omega’s origins in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 9 but I quite like the idea. The Star Wars universe has always been about legacies—the Skywalkers, the Palpatines, and now it looks like we’re getting the Fetts.

Where will this story go? What is Omega’s fate in the Star Wars universe? I can’t even begin to imagine but I’m excited about it!
