Grey’s Anatomy alum Justin Chambers to play Marlon Brando in limited series
By Mads Lennon
Grey’s Anatomy alum Justin Chambers has landed his next big television gig with a meaty role as Marlon Brando in the upcoming limited series The Offer on Paramount+.
The Offer is based on Al Ruddy’s experience of making Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 classic The Godfather, per Deadline. Brando played mob boss Vito Corleone in the film. The Godfather was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won three of them, with Brando receiving the award for Best Actor, although he refused it.
The 10-episode event series will also star Miles Teller as Ruddy and Dan Fogler as Coppola. Nikki Toscano will write, produce and showrun the series. Creator Michael Tolkin will also write and executive produce. Dexter Fletcher is set to direct the first and last block of the show.
The Offer will be Justin Chambers’ biggest role apart from Grey’s Anatomy
Chambers caused quite a stir in 2019 after spending well over a decade on the long-running ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. He played Dr. Alex Karev for 350 episodes before leaving abruptly. The way his character was written off is still a significant source of controversy for fans of the show and the relationship between Chambers’ character Karev and his on-screen wife Jo Wilson (Camila Luddington).
When he left the show, he told Deadline “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years. For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”
It looks like The Offer is a way for him to follow through on that promise to diversify his portfolio.
Grey’s Anatomy was the actor’s most notable role to date, so it’ll be interesting for fans to see him tackle something so different. But the limited series gives him an opportunity to sink his teeth into something meaty and far different from playing a surgeon.
Outside of the medical drama, Chambers also appeared in a recurring role on Cold Case and films like The Musketeer, The Wedding Planner, and Lakeview Terrace.
