Why Women Kill Season 2 heats things up as Rita (Lana Parrilla) winds up in jail after being framed by Alma (Allison Tolman) for Carlo’s murder. It’s a wild ride, to say the least, as the characters fall deeper and deeper into their web of lies.

To be honest, it’s difficult to keep up with all the lies, but it’s what makes the show so darn fun to watch. Particularly, I’ve had so much fun watching Tolman play Alma so effortlessly. Her character development has been ridiculously engaging, especially the path from innocent to straight-up evil.

Alma can switch back and forth between both personas with no issue, but I fear this will be her downfall to getting caught. In fact, she gets awfully close in this week’s episode as her secrets begin to spill out in front of Bertram (Nick Frost).

It was an exciting episode to watch unfold, so without further ado, let’s break down everything that happened during this week’s episode of Why Women Kill Season 2.

Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 7 recap: Rita

Rita is escorted off to jail after Catherine (Veronica Falcón) calls the cops on her. She’s prompted to do so after Alma strategically frames Rita with a damning phone call leading Catherine to Rita’s bag. The night Bertram killed Carlo, Alma made sure to sneak into the house and place a syringe in Rita’s bag.

That same syringe leads the cops to the house and subsequently gets Rita arrested—all thanks to Alma’s clever framing. Who would have thought the simple lady we met at the start of the season would have turned into such a conniving villain?

Once she’s in jail, Rita realizes she doesn’t really have anyone on her side. Her lawyer abandons her to represent Catherine, the judge denies her bail, and even Scooter (Matthew Daddario) cuts all ties with her. It’s a sad sight to see, but I can’t help but feel she has had it coming. You shouldn’t mess with people, Rita; they’ll come after you!

In an attempt to get Catherine away from Carlo’s wealth, Rita asks Isabel (Eileen Galindo) to get the blackmail pictures from Vern (Jordane Christie). Unfortunately for Rita, Catherine catches the two of them on the phone and gets one step ahead. She looks through both Isabel and Rita’s stuff and finds old letters from Rita to Isabel talking about a murder they committed.

It’s enough to overcome the blackmail Rita planned to use and winds up pushing Isabel away from Rita as well. Now, in every sense of the word, Rita is all alone.

Why Women Kill Season 2, Episode 7 recap: Dee, Bertram, and Alma

Bertram is extremely frazzled when he realizes that Rita is in jail for Carlo’s murder. He doesn’t realize it was all part of Alma’s plan until later in the episode when Vern comes over for dinner to meet him and Alma.

Speaking of which, Dee (B.K. Cannon) reveals that she and Vern are engaged, and later her parents find out that she is pregnant with someone else’s baby. It’s an interesting dinner, to say the least. Apart from all the personal secrets, Vern shares that he will be helping Rita prove her innocence, which won’t bode well for Alma or Bertram if he succeeds.

If he takes Rita on as a client, he’ll get paid a huge sum of money, securing his and Dee’s future. It’s not exactly ideal for his future in-laws, especially now that they’re at odds with one another over Alma’s secrets.

At this point in the series, everyone has a barrage of lies they’re telling and secrets they’re hiding. The web is getting so entangled that it is only a matter of time before it falls apart, and we’ll be here to see how it all goes down!
