The Good Fight Season 5 gets rather complicated as Diane (Christine Baranski) and Kurt (Gary Cole) face a grand jury. The series always incorporates real-life events into its storyline, and they’ve done it once again.

In last week’s episode, we learned that Kurt might have trained the insurrectionists responsible for the January 6 attack on the Capitol. And now the spotlight is on Kurt thanks to an anonymous call Diane made to the hotline about one insurrectionist in particular.

And with all that, now Kurt is facing the wrath of the authorities and could be facing up to 20 years in prison. It’s definitely going to make things difficult for their marriage, and I’m nervous to think about what will come of it. They’ve been through a lot, but I fear this may be the end of the road.

A lot went down during this week’s episode of The Good Fight Season 5, so without further ado, let’s recap all the major moments. And be sure to share your favorite moments in the comments below!

The Good Fight Season 5, Episode 4 recap: The grand jury

Before walking into the grand jury hearing, Kurt had no idea that Diane was partially responsible for him being directed by the authorities. But during his questioning, he was forced to listen to Diane’s call to the hotline. His face told us exactly how he was feeling–and it was not the look of a happy man.

The grand jury hearing occurred after Diane and Kurt’s home was searched by the FBI. Carmen (Charmaine Bingwa) tipped them off about it, but they had no idea why they would be getting searched at that moment in time.

In a moment of frenzy, Diane called Liz (Audra McDonald) and Jay (Nyambi Nyambi) to get help on wiping her laptop clean of any incriminating data. She manages to get it done, but it turns out the authorities were there because of Kurt.

Of course, as we see later, the grand jury doesn’t go as well as Kurt or Diane would have hoped. Well, that is unless Kurt gives up names…

The Good Fight Season 5, Episode 4 recap: #Cancelled

The rest of the episode takes a moment to focus on cancel culture. At the firm, some of the associates create “excuse” cards with labels on them. If you have one of the cards, then you’re allowed to make inappropriate comments about whatever the subject is on them.

While it seems hilarious, the HR department is not happy with what is going on in the firm. But even the senior partners and name partners join in on the fun and take a moment to throw political correctness out the door.

It makes for some hilarious moments, which have become the standard for the show and something we’ve come to expect.

The Good Fight Season 5, Episode 4 recap: Platform 9 3/4

I love watching Mandy Patinkin in this season of The Good Fight, he’s so entertaining as Judge Hal Wackner. Here’s to hoping he stays a part of this show moving forward–he’s been such a welcome addition!

Anyway, we spend a little bit of time in Wackner’s court, which is undergoing some changes after he visited Diane’s firm. He likes to do things in his own way, and with that in mind, he decided to add a jury to his courtroom. Wackner’s goal is to make things as diverse and equal as possible, so he makes sure the jurors are from different backgrounds and that the witnesses that take the stand are wearing costumes, so they are unrecognizable. Seriously, who thinks up this stuff?!

It’ll be interesting to see how Wackner’s antics and attitude change as he tries to make his courtroom a legitimate place to practice law. I don’t think he’ll pull it off as easily as he thinks, but he does seem to be getting more people on board. Tune in to see what happens there!
