Anansi Boys: Delroy Lindo to play Mr. Nancy in the upcoming Amazon series
By Mads Lennon
Delroy Lindo of The Good Fight fame has been cast as Mr. Nancy in the upcoming Amazon Prime series Anansi Boys, reports TVLine. Lindo just left the Paramount+ series following its Season 5 premiere and will now star in the upcoming Neil Gaiman project.
For those out of the loop, Anansi Boys is not related to the canceled Starz show American Gods. Previously, Orlando Jones played Mr. Nancy in the series, as the character comes from the novel by Gaiman. But the Amazon series is not a sequel or spinoff.
The Starz drama was plagued by behind-the-scenes troubles early on and Jones was outspoken about how he felt the show treated his character. He wasn’t asked back for the third season and a spokesperson for the show told TVLine the reason was that the series was focusing on parts of the book that didn’t involve Mr. Nancy.
Anansi Boys will focus on Charlie Nancy
This new series will focus on Charlie Nancy. Charlie learns that his father Mr. Nancy was the Anansi, as in the trickster god from all the old stories. It’s not until after his estranged father dies that Charlie discovers his family’s surprising legacy. His brother, Spider, is a new and dangerous player in Charlie’s story who comes into the picture shortly after their father’s death.
Given the casting news, it sounds like the ABC pilot Lindo initially left The Good Fight for, Harlem’s Kitchen is probably not moving forward at the network although no official announcement has been made.
Amazon is also producing the second season of Gaiman’s other series, Good Omens. The author also has The Sandman in the works at Netflix.
