Amazon has finally unveiled The Lord of the Rings TV series release date in addition to the first official image of the highly-anticipated series.

According to Deadline, filming officially wrapped on the first season of Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings television series, which won’t be released until next year. The show still doesn’t have an official title yet so we’re stuck calling it The Lord of the Rings TV show for the time being.

We know that the show will release in a weekly format, rather than dropping all episodes of the first season simultaneously. More streaming services seem to be leaning into this format, following the lead of streaming services like HBO Max, Disney+, and Apple TV+. Netflix is one of the few streamers that still drops full seasons at once.

The Lord of the Rings TV series release date

As you can see from the above tweet from the official Lord of the Rings Twitter account, we still have a long way to go before we’ll see the series on our screens at home. But the first image does look promising, as it should, given the massive budget for each episode of the upcoming show.

I’m sure we’ll get a lot more images, video clips, and interviews between now and the premiere date, September 2, 2022, but for now the only thing fans have to tide themselves over is the above photograph. We don’t know the exact location or even the character featured in the image, although I’m sure diehard fans are already doing their best to theorize what we’re looking at in the first official photo.
