The Flash Season 8 to premiere with ‘Armageddon’ crossover
The upcoming season of The Flash Season 8 will start strong with a five-part crossover spanning multiple Arrowverse franchises.
If all accounts and rumors are to be believed, the eighth season of The Flash will be its last. While I personally will be sad to see it go, it is hard to say it did not have a good run (pun very much intended).
In my opinion, Barry Allen and Team Flash have had the best rogues gallery out of any superhero show on television, never mind on The CW. But as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and season eight looks to be The Flash‘s swan song.
To conclude the show, however, there has to be a beginning to the end. As announced by The CW and reported by TVLine, The Flash will helm the infamous and annual Arrowverse Crossover special hauntingly titled, “Armageddon.” Now this word in of itself carries a heavy load, so what it will eventually entail will hopefully live up to its reputation.
Other than The Flash, the other heroes and protagonists involved in this crossover are Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, Ray Palmer/The Atom, Mia Queen, Alex Danvers/Sentinel, and Ryan Choi. Then some not-so-friendly faces reprising their roles are Damien Darhk and Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash.
Knowing how often Arrowverse shows like to align their heroes and big bad villains temporarily, I think it is too early to tell if Thawne and Darhk will be going against Barry Allen and company or joining forces with them.
The Flash Season 8: What does the “Armageddon” crossover mean for Team Flash?
According to the official release from The CW, this crossover event of “Armageddon” has the logline:
"“A powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances and Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world. But with time running out, and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail.”"
While not a traditional crossover in the sense of unique shows getting their own episodes dedicated to their story, this story looks to be just as significant and impactful as the likes of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Elseworlds, Crisis on Earth-X, etc.
It should also be noted that this will be the first crossover event without the namesake of this entire universe in Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. If anyone were to pick up the mantle of the number one hero, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen would be able to do so with ease. The way that he led the attack against Godspeed in The Flash season 7 finale with such charisma, dignity and gusto was a thing of legend.
I know I am very much excited for the long-awaited returns of Ray Palmer, Mia Queen, and Damien Darhk, so “Armageddon” will be must-see TV for me.
