2. American Horror Story

Even though fall doesn’t necessarily have to mean spooky season, most of the time, people who love autumn also love Halloween. Well, there is no better show to get you in the spirit than American Horror Story. Not only does the horror anthology generally air in September or October every year, making it a fall staple, but it’s a horror series with a unique theme each season.

Plus, you can pick and choose which seasons to watch since each differs. Seasons like Murder House, Coven, and Roanoke are particularly suited to being cozy autumn shows. As for awards, American Horror Story might fall flat with directing and writing from time to time, but the performances typically never waver. With a star-studded repertoire of A-list actors, many have picked up awards over the years, even Lady Gaga herself, who won a Golden Globe for Hotel.

American Horror Story is now streaming on Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.

1. Stranger Things

A list of award-winning, cozy autumn shows would not be complete without Stranger Things. The first season, in particular, is best suited for this specific vibe, followed by the second. You might want to skip season three for now since it takes place in the summer, but even so, the entire show is about a small town where mysterious things happen.

It’s one of my favorite television tropes and one that always makes me think of fall. Stranger Things starts with a tried and true concept of a kid disappearing and soon becomes an engrossing mystery filled with lovable characters, crazy conspiracies, and terrifying monsters. And it doesn’t hurt that there are Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes!

Also, I admit I am cheating a little by including Stranger Things because, sadly, it hasn’t won any major awards from the Golden Globes or Primetime Emmys yet, but it has received numerous nominations and it has won several Creative Arts Emmys, so I don’t feel too bad. And I argue that Stranger Things is generally one of the coziest autumn shows out there, so that’s that.

Stranger Things is exclusively streaming on Netflix.
