Only Murders in the Building Season 1, Episode 5 recap: Twist

In the previous episode of Only Murders in the Building, Charles and Oliver found out that Mabel knew Tim Kono. Will they confront her or come up with a scheme to get her to spill?

Mabel is walking down the street, and the “tie-dye guy” is following her. We catch a glimpse of “tie dye guy” but don’t know who it is. Mabel turns into an alley and jumps on him.

Oliver is in the elevator with Charles recording their new findings about Mabel. Oliver thinks that she could be the murderer, but Charles doesn’t think so.

“Tie-dye guy” is Oscar. Mabel hugs him. They are going to go to Jersey together.

Only Murders in the Building Episode 5: Why are Oscar and Mabel going to Jersey?

Oliver and Charles are going to go after Mabel. They spot her getting into the car with Oscar, and they try to chase them.

Charles is chasing them on foot while Oliver goes to get the car. Mabel is going to go to G.M, the jewelers.

Oliver catches up to Charles in the car, and now they can properly follow them.

Mabel asks Oscar about what he has been up to since he got out. Oscar admits to being in the building the night that Tim died. Mabel realizes that he is Charles’ “tie-dye guy.”

Charles and Oliver think that Mabel told them to forget about the “tie-dye guy” because she knew who he was, but she didn’t at the time.

Oscar claims that he went up to her apartment when Tim died, but we see a flashback of him going to Tim’s door.

Charles decides to call Mabel, but it goes to her voicemail. Oliver finds the story of Mabel’s friend’s death on the internet.

Charles calls Mabel again, and she answers. She tells him that she is fine and can’t meet for tea. Charles jumps to thinking that she has been taken hostage. Oliver thinks that they are being played.

Mabel thinks she has to go to the jewelry place, but Oscar thinks they have to go to Mabel’s cousin. Mabel agrees, and they head to Bayport, Long Island.

Only Murders in the Building Season 1 Episode 5: Who will be right, Oscar or Mabel?

Oscar and Mabel pull into a gas station. Charles and Oliver pull in. Oliver’s car is smoking. They may not be able to continue on.

Charles realizes that Mabel hasn’t been kidnapped. They have to leave the car but get someone to follow and give them a ride.

Oscar and Mabel get to her cousins. Oscar doesn’t want her to go in. He wants to leave what happened to Tim in the past.

While Mabel waits inside, Charles and Oliver walk in. They ask her if she knows Tim. She says yes. They ask if she is involved, but she says no. Mabel introduces Oscar to Charles and Oliver.

Charles says that he saw Oscar going up to Tim’s apartment. Oscar confesses that he went to Tim’s. He said that he heard the gunshot when he got to the door.

Mabel’s cousin comes out and says that he didn’t know Tim was murdered. But he did share that  Tim thought he would get murdered from trying to take down a black market jewelry company.

While the rest of them think it over, Mabel dumps all the jewelry she found at the apartment onto the table.

What is really going on? Was Tim killed for trying to take down this black market jeweler? Was he still playing “Hardy Boys”?  Leave a comment below!
