9-1-1 Season 5 finally concludes the blackout storyline with a dramatic twist as Athena (Angela Bassett) and the team scramble to find Harry (Marcanthonee Reis). In last week’s episode, Jeffrey (Noah Bean), the same man who nearly beat Athena to death last season, kidnapped Harry.

After his lawyer helped him escape (again) into the darkness of the blackout, Jeffrey made it his mission to ruin Athena’s life. And he did so cleverly knowing that Athena would be less focused on her family and more focused on his past victims.

But Jeffrey’s clever antics were no match for Harry, who found a way to escape from the trunk of the car. While he was caught by Jeffrey eventually, he did manage to get a random passerby to record Jeffrey pretending to be a cop pulling Harry away.

And that was just the start of the madness that was this week’s episode of 9-1-1 Season 5! Read more about what happened below, and don’t forget to leave your comments.

9-1-1 Season 5, Episode 3 recap: The fugitive

With Jeffrey on the run with Harry, Athena and Michael (Rockmond Dunbar) head off on their own to find their son. It’s not advisable by law enforcement, but when your kid is involved, anything goes. Thanks to May (Corinne Massiah), who finds the viral video of Harry and Jeffrey, the search becomes a bit easier.

They track it down to a police protection zone in the city, but not before we’re privy to some disturbing flashback scenes of Jeffrey. It takes us to the night that Jeffrey escaped and then walked right into Athena’s home and kidnapped Harry. He made a pit stop in Athena’s room to sniff her underwear (ew, gross), and when Harry caught him in the room, it was the perfect segue for Jeffrey to use him as bait.

Midway through the episode, Athena finds Jeffrey and runs after him. She strategically planned the whole thing and had Jeffrey cornered. The entire station, including Bobby (Peter Krause), lies in wait as Athena manages to get Jeffrey right in front of the fire truck and its blinding lights.

They exchange threatening words as Athena tries to get Jeffrey to tell her where Harry is. But when he raises his gun and aims at Bobby, Athena shoots him dead right on the spot. Jeffrey dies before he can reveal where Harry is, leaving them with another mystery to solve.

A process of elimination helps them find Harry, who got stuck behind a wall. This kid is going to be dealing with some trauma for the rest of his life! But alls well that ends well because he makes it home safe and sound. And Jeffrey is no longer a concern!

9-1-1 Season 5, Episode 3 recap: Eddie and Ana

Sadly, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) and Ana (Gabrielle Walsh) call it quits during this week’s episode. It was painful to watch Ana panic as she knew what was coming. While Eddie was away dealing with the blackout, Ana watched Christopher (Gavin McHugh), so it hurts to see that her time there ended with a breakup.

This decision came after Eddie had a panic attack when he realized that things were getting serious with Ana. It doesn’t seem like he’s there yet, even though Christopher definitely was. But alas, this is the end of the road for Ana and Eddie, and while I totally shipped this couple, I respect Eddie for walking away when he knew it wasn’t right to stay.

9-1-1 Season 5, Episode 3 recap: Bye, Maddie

The episode ended with a heartbreaking reveal and departure, and this one really, really hurts. Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) has been dealing with postpartum depression since having the baby, and after some unfortunate incidents, she decides she isn’t capable of taking care of the baby.

She drops the baby off at the fire station and leaves a video note for Chimney (Kenneth Choi) not to look for her. It’s heartbreaking to see the look on Chimney’s face, and I can only imagine what the future holds for him and the baby.

But what I do know is that he’s a great father, and he will make it through this, with or without Maddie. At least, I hope so.
