The Walking Dead World Beyond Season 2, Episode 2 recap: Foothold
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Episode 2 “Foothold” might slow the plot down a bit, but overall, things are just getting started as our heroes begin making plans to end the CRM. It all begins with a minor setback on Iris’s end but little does she know Hope is on the inside and already setting things into motion.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 2 recap: The cover-up
The episode immediately begins with Iris looking down at the CRM soldier she killed. She doesn’t have time to dwell as she and Felix have to hide the body before security forces find him.
Because of what she did, she now put The Perimeter in danger. But that doesn’t stop her, Felix and Will from trying to cover up the situation.
As they search for walkers, Iris tells Felix and Will that she believes the CRM killed the people back home, not empties. Even though Felix and Will have no reason to trust the CRM, they still find it far-fetched.
During their walker capture, Iris keeps blanking out to her nightmares where she sees a walker pull off its face to reveal a CRM soldier. She has yet to confide in Felix about these disturbing images.
While the three of them tried to handle the situation on their own, Indira at The Perimeter and others in charge found the CRM notebooks Iris had been decoding. Before the argument over whether they should stay or go get’s heated the CRM and Elizabeth show up.
Iris, Felix, and Will hide, and the CRM notebook is (laughably) covered by some flimsy paper. Indira does her best to remain calm as Elizabeth explains how they are searching for a missing soldier.
She even suggests that they leave soldiers at The Perimeter in case those responsible for the soldiers’ disappearance were to show up. Before she catches the trio in hiding, she receives a radio call that the body had been found.
The trio is relieved, but they need to stop being rash and start being rational if they are to stop the CRM.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 2 recap: Where’s Silas?
Silas finds himself essentially dumped at a location with three others by a man named Dennis. They are to kill the empties that are dropped off, load them up to be disposed of at what they call a “decontamination” site.
Silas appears very disoriented and confused as to how he got there to begin with. He’d often glance to the wrapped-up wound on his hand.
Last we saw Silas, he was being arrested by CRM soldiers and Elizabeth herself mentioned in the last episode how he was being questioned. So then, how did he wind up here?
The three others he’s working with: Webb, Tiga, and Grady seem nice enough but keep to themselves. At the end of the workday, Silas is shown where he sleeps.
He takes the opportunity to ask Dennis what is going on. Dennis reveals he’s a mechanic and that their decontamination location is just one of several.
They hope that by clearing out the state, they will begin to have an advantage over the dead. What Silas finds more interesting is that he’s told that Dennis leaves every night for the Research Facility.
The others joke that Dennis has a lady friend there and wonder if Silas does too. That lady friend of Dennis’s looks to be Jennifer as he has a photo of them in uniform under his truck visor.
We are then purposely shown he’s wearing a gold wedding band. Are they implying that he and Jennifer are or were married?
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 2 recap: Hope and Dr. Bennett
Dr. Leo Bennett is a smart man. Smart enough to know the CRM isn’t what it claims to be but not smart enough to realize his girlfriend, Dr. Lyla Belshaw, is feeding everything he tells her to Elizabeth.
What’s more, is that Hope hasn’t been completely honest with her father about Iris and Felix. How could she not be?
She doesn’t know who to trust at all. Dr. Bennett is aware of the (lie) situation Elizabeth told him about Omaha and Campus Colony, as well as the means of how Hope arrived.
Even to the details of the fake messages. He’s fed up with the CRM and refuses to work for them unless Iris and Felix are there with him.
He even suggests going out there to find them with the soldiers. However, Elizabeth finds ways to deflect the situation at every turn.
Something she is very good at. His hands are tied but, that doesn’t mean he won’t attempt to try to get through to Hope.
On Hope’s end, she’s exploring the facility, looking for cameras, secured areas, and such when she’s approached by Lyla. Lyla’s attempt to get close to Hope without revealing she’s dating Dr. Bennett doesn’t interest Hope.
But what does is seeing restricted areas. During the tour, Lyla explains the hard work her father has been doing. This is the work they are hoping Hope will one day do herself and pass it on for generations to come.
Before they reach her father’s office, Hope spots a room intended for security when a young man named Mason (a possible future love interest) sees her. He opens the door for her revealing nothing inside except random janitorial items and supplies.
Mason seems to have a rebellious side to him like Hope which she can admire for the moment. By the end of the day, Hope does address her father dating Lyla but more importantly they are about to have some actual serious discussions.
Her father know something is amiss, and he needs Hope to trust him. But will she?
Thankfully not many trust the CRM on The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 2.
While yes, Felix is still a bit hesitant about believing what the CRM could do and that Dr. Bennett trusts Lyla, it is relieving to see that no one really trusts the CRM. Felix is probably still in shock about the news and just can’t process what Iris believes.
Dr. Bennett knows Elizabeth is not being truthful but yet finds solace in Lyla. Iris’s take-no-prisoners attitude is perfect!
It will be a joy to watch her continue to take charge and really do some damage to the CRM. Thankfully Hope is being wise and putting on the perfect performance so that no one figures out what she’s really doing.
What she may need to realize is that she’ll need help on the inside, and Mason may be one who can help. Silas’s situation is strange, hopefully, we’ll have more details as to how he got there, to begin with.
Maybe it was part of Jennifer’s doing? Regardless you know he’ll be making some sort of escape attempt soon so he can get to the Research Facility.
At this point everything is beginning to set up for the CRM to fall, the questions are how and when? Will Elton and Percy make their appearance next episode?
