The following article contains SPOILERS for Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15

As Alex and Kelly adjust to becoming adoptive mothers, Kara and the Super Friends strive for inspiring lasting hope in this episode of Supergirl Season 6.

Check out our recap of last week’s episode here!

Alex Danvers and Kelly Olson are easily one of the most wholesome couples within the Arrowverse so having this episode begin with bringing the adorable Esme into their home was such a beautiful start. Seeing all of the Super Friends excited to have a little cherub in their midst perfectly encapsulated how much of a family these characters are. That is solidified when J’onn J’onzz is referred to as the grandfather figure. So true.

Kelly brings Esme into her new home, and naturally, Esme is excited about having a room and bed all to herself after spending so much time in a group home. Esme is honestly the stand-out of this scene, telling Kara she has her own stuffed animal, so she does not need any others. Then she introduced herself to J’onn by saying, “Nice to meet you,” and sticking her hand out for a cordial shake. It made my heart melt into a puddle.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Esme struggles to adjust

However, this opening scene takes an abrupt turn when Esme mimics J’onn’s Martian ability and phases through the bedroom wall. Thankfully, J’onn is quick on his feet and saves the little one. Esme begins blaming herself for not being able to control her ability to mimic alien powers. Alluding to how the houses she stayed at before made her feel guilty for being a young alien unable to control her powers.

At the Tower, Brainy and William prepare their welcome gifts for Esme, with Brainy going for building blocks and William bringing in some of his family’s favorite meals. Alex and Kelly discuss how they are worried about Esme and saying the wrong thing to her because the last thing they want to do is hurt this young girl, leading to Alex enlisting Brainy to help out with his infinite knowledge and powerful intellect.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Race to the Hope Totem

Within Nyxly’s ship, audiences see the Imp princess reading William’s article about his time embedded within the Super Friends. She is offended about her portrayal in the article due to her being written as the villain. Her human assistant Mitch then reveals he built a cuff with the Courage Totem to counter-act the cuff the Super Friends and Mister Mxyzptlk placed on her wrist before the 5th Dimension Imp sacrificed himself.

This means Nyxly can now use some of her powers and manipulate others’ courage and fear. She plans on using these newfound powers to finally retrieve the Hope Totem, the one she failed to do when she was filled with humanity.

Following the Super Friends discovering Nyxly has broken into The Hague, the dynamic duo of Supergirl and Martian Manhunter arrive to stop her. Nyxly puts up a fight, begins her gauntlet, and flees the iconic Dutch building. Kara begins her gauntlet once Nyxly leaves and is told she must inspire hope that is brighter and lasts longer than the sun.

Because of the Imp Princess’ power being used at The Hague, diplomats from Corto Maltese and Kaznia are filled with magical fear that creates a mini Cold War between the two nations. J’onn J’onzz decides to stay behind to help the unaffected US Secretary keep the peace while Kara returns to National City to request help from Lena.

After failing with Brainy, Alex turns to her sister to help Esme use her mimic powers safely and healthily. When the little bundle of joy figures out Kara and Supergirl are the same person, they begin with the last daughter of Krypton’s super hearing. Esme ends up hearing some people in danger and obnoxious sounds with makes her outburst in the direction of Alex.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Nyxly’s devious plan

Back at The Hague, J’onn and the US Secretary struggle to use his Martian powers to maintain peace between the arguing foreign diplomats with nuclear weapons at their disposal. Nyxly realizes that she will beat Supergirl of all people on her ship at the Hope Totem’s gauntlet, so she decides to steal a human in William as bait. And the Imp Princess knows exactly where he will be…

Because of a conversation with her best friend Lena, Kara realizes she might have to inspire hope without a red cape or tights, but with her words and eyeglasses as Kara Danvers, reporter. Within the walls of Catco, Kara pitches a hopeful and happy article to Andrea, but her editor shuts it down because the world is not as good as her article alludes to.

Before any progress can be made, Nyxly ambushes the publisher’s bullpen and captures William. The 5th dimension Imp Princess makes an open threat to Supergirl, so the Kryptonian brings her the Hope and Humanity Totem’s or William will die, and Nyxly will unleash her cuff’s powers leading to countless folks being afraid and paranoid towards one another.

Within the Tower, we see Lena becoming comfier with her magical powers and mother’s spellbook, but with no success in casting a protection charm around the Humanity Totem. We also see Brainy unable to track down Nyxly’s ship to rescue William without passing the problematic Hope totem’s gauntlet.

To smooth things over with Esme, the adorable Alex and Kelly decide to use the alien called the Truth Seeker, so Esme will know her adoptive mothers are honest. They promise Esme never to leave her because of her powers, and Esme’s mistakes will not lessen their admiration and care for her. This comforts Esme, especially when she hears the women looking after her are full-fledged superheroes and will protect her innocent and fragile life.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Nuclear Warfare

Discussions between Corto Maltese and Kaznia are not subsided, and they both launch their respective shares of nuclear missiles. Supergirl, Brainiac, and Martian Manhunter stop every missile, which helps Supergirl find the inspiration she was tasked to do. After the warfare ends and the Hope Totem is retrieved, Kara travels to evil Imp Princess and William to save her friend and colleague.

Kara tricks Nyxly into holding the Hope Totem that burns her hand, drops the totem, and distracts the villain long enough so Supergirl can swoop in. This leads to Kara retrieving the Hope Totem from the ground, the Courage Totem from Nyxly’s wrist, and William.

Due to this, the Super Friends now have every discovered and unleashed Totem, and Nyxly has zero. The team realizes that the All-Stone will not be completed if one of the totems is destroyed, and they agree to destroy the Hope Totem since Supergirl will be able to inspire Hope with or without a totem. Supergirl then flies the Hope Totem into the sun and destroys it.

The episode ends with Nyxly sensing one of the totems was destroyed and is understandably devastated. However, this devastation is short-lived when a portal opens up in her ship, and a package floats out of it from a “Secret Admirer.” Inside the package is a wristwatch that dispenses a suit of technologically advanced armor, reminiscent of one Lex Luthor. Considering we have not seen the evil mastermind since Supergirl Season 6 returned, it is safe to say I am very excited to see more of this wonderfully written and equally maniacal character.
