2. The first look at the Commonwealth

After much anticipation, we can now see inside The Commonwealth but we have yet to truly understand how it all works. The Commonwealth is a flourishing community that has taken what we’ve known and loved before the apocalypse and somehow made it better.

People appear happy with their jobs, living in their new normality with tons of soldiers to protect them. Their enrollment process seemed nonstop with Eugene, Ezekiel, The Princess and Yumiko appearing to never catch a break.

Should we be surprised that such a successful community would be so secretive as to not tell newcomers the rules and laws? Or is all of this a continuous test?

It sure seemed that way when Eugene and Stephanie save a young couple from walkers, only to then get harassed just as Mercer arrives a moment too late. On top of that, they seemed obsessed with wanting to know where Eugene’s community is located.

The four were asked repeatedly about it and it seems they haven’t let up with asking. Are they worried about a threat?

Do they take over other communities? Or is something else going on entirely?

1. Negan and Maggie use Whisperer tactics

Throughout the first half of the final season, fans knew that Maggie and Negan were going to butt heads but at this point, it was getting excessive. Conveniently Negan is one of the few people left to help Maggie on her mission to get the food and supplies from her old home Meridian.

But of course, with Meridian now being under Reaper control their mission has been near impossible. Negan, Maggie, Father Gabriel and Elijah are outnumbered or so they think.

Negan comes up with the brilliant idea to pull a stunt he learned from The Whisperers. Who would have thought Maggie needed him after all?

This moment is surprising for multiple reasons, mostly because the tactic appears to work during the mid-season finale. Well sort of.

If Negan hadn’t spent time with The Whisperers, he not only would have led to their downfall but also wouldn’t have had the idea mentioned above. This might also be a pivotal moment for Maggie to realize that she doesn’t have to like Negan but should at least respect the fact that he’s useful.
