Episode 3 “Exit Wounds” of The Walking Dead: World Beyond shows that while some can handle the CR and learn to relax, others cannot escape from the things they have seen and done in a world filled with dangerous empties. But throughout the different situations our characters are dealing with they remain focused on reuniting with each other, no matter the cost.

Hope continues to observe the CR from the inside as she goes about her usual activities including noticing Jennifer talking to a man she doesn’t recognize. Trouble is she’s trying to juggle staying under the radar and protecting her family from the likes of Elizabeth.

She refuses to give her father any information as she worries about his safety. After Hope has a friendly debate with fellow classmate Mason during class he invites her to hang out with his friends as they hold a memorial for the lives lost at Omaha.

Although Hope is hesitant she winds up going where she meets other intelligent minds, has some alcohol and defeats Mason in a very competitive game of Jenga. Did I mention that he seems fine being at the CR even if he only sees his family for two weeks out of the year?

While all of this does bring Hope joy, it’s only for a moment as she keeps thinking about everything she, Iris and her friends went through before arriving at the CR. Hope cannot stay there anymore and begs Jennifer to take her to Iris and Felix.

Jennifer and Dennis’s relationship isn’t quite spelled out in this episode however the two of them are obviously together. They share strong feelings for each other however after some unfortunate events that Dennis was responsible for, he was sent to work at decontamination.

Jennifer on the other hand had to pay her dues before she could return to her duty after her actions to get Hope to the CR were examined. Jennifer is confronted by Dr. Bennett who is refusing to accept the lies he’s being told about Iris and Felix.

She is later confronted by Hope who needs to see Iris and Felix. Hope knows that Jennifer can take her to them and manages to convince her to do so.

This also means that Jennifer cannot have dinner with Dennis that evening. He has been fighting tooth and nail for their relationship but Jennifer knows her duty to Hope must come first.

She takes a vehicle, cleverly hiding Hope and manages to leave without the security officer at the gate knowing. Or does she?

It wouldn’t be surprising if Jennifer is under surveillance herself and that her mother is getting reports about what she is up to. Especially since Jennifer hasn’t been completely truthful to her about what Iris, Felix, Silas, and Elton knows about the CRM.

Elton and Percy find a horse and come across a young boy and girl camping out. Percy wants to steal their food and run whereas Elton wants to take a more honest approach.

Elton’s plan starts to work as the brother and sister duo Dev and Asha give him food before they catch Percy trying to steal all of it. As Percy and Elton run away empties emerge!

The two continue running while Dev and Asha are busy killing the empties. They don’t get far as they are almost eaten by empties who have been trapped under several years of dirt and grass.

Dev and Asha arrive to save them when Elton’s arm gets bit! Dev and Asha are ready to chop off Elton’s arm to save him when he shows them that the corduroy was bite-proof!

In response to this discovery, Asha takes Elton’s jacket and takes him and Percy to where they live. But not before they scoop out the dead empties, or as they call them “vessels”, eyes and place flowers in place of them.

They both say a prayer in the hopes that the person the vessel once was can finally move on in peace. After passing dangerous sign after dangerous sign it turns out Dev and Asha are from The Perimeter and their mother is the leader Indira.

Dev and Asha knew who Elton and Percy were and the whole event was meant as a way for them to have fun. Bad jokes aside, this means the two are reunited with Iris who gives them the rundown on what has been happening.

None of them however know about Silas’s whereabouts. The episode concludes as a group of mysterious people wearing black with hoods covering their faces arrive that evening.

Things are more complicated than they appear for our heroes on The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 3.

We once again encounter another term for walkers in The Walking Dead Universe as this episode uses the term “vessels”. It’s not a bad concept as even Milton way back on The Walking Dead had hoped that some memory of a person’s former self was still there once they turned.

As much as we want to hate Jennifer for what she did to the group, she is in a tough spot between her upbringing, wanting to believe in her mother and the CRM as well as having a relationship with Dennis and doing what’s right by Hope.

It’s interesting to see how quickly our opinions of Jennifer can change once we see things from her perspective. It’s equally sad to see what she is going through when those around her can not.

It’s stressful for Hope who is balancing keeping her father and family safe from the CRM while also trying not to turn her father away. Hope battles between trying to see the positives of where she is while also being unable to adjust because of what she experienced outside the safety of a secure location.

While Elton and Percy’s reunion with Iris might seem far-fetched it was a welcomed plot convenience. Now three of the five are together again and can begin focusing on finding Silas and freeing Hope.

But even they know they will need the numbers and unfortunately, The Perimeter has no interest in getting involved. However, they may be forced to, for surely Elizabeth will be back and the group will be caught sooner or later.
