Best Gilmore Girls fall episodes: season 3 episode 7: They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?

What’s it about: This is one of the most famous episodes of Gilmore Girls, and for good reason. The 24-hour dance marathon is quirky, soapy excellence, complete with some serious chemistry between Luke and Lorelai, serious conflict in the Rory/Jess/Dean love triangle, and serious sweetness when, at the end of the episode, Lorelai comforts a heartbroken Rory on the dancefloor. Men may come and go, but they’re mother/daughther goals forever.

Why it’s among the best Gilmore Girls fall episodes: The first shot shows pumpkins and other fall decor lining the Stars Hollow streets. Plus, there’s just something about the self-contained town event that screams autumn.

What’s it about: Taking place right after “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?”, this episode deals with the fallout of the dance marathon, aka Rory and Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) finally getting together and all that entails. (Like an overprotective Luke.) Richard (Edward Hermann) also leads the Gilmore women, including Emily (Kelly Bishop), on a tour around Yale — and sets up a surprise interview between Rory and the Dean of Admissions.

Why it’s among the best Gilmore Girls fall episodes: Exhausted from the dance marathon, Lorelai and Rory plop themselves on a bale of hay and try to psychically move Luke’s closer to them. Friday night dinner includes a seasonally appropriate walnut salad, much to Emily’s dismay. The scenes of the Gilmores touring the Yale campus also exude fall-centric back-to-school vibes.
