And just like that, we’ve reached the penultimate episode of Impeachment: American Crime Story! It’s been a long road to get to the historical scandal that many of us remember so very clearly. This week’s episode covered the grand jury portion of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, and it was very uncomfortable to watch.

Beanie Feldstein’s performance was phenomenal as she answered the jarringly awkward questions that Monica Lewinsky once had to actually answer. Her quiet, tame presence seemed to calm the grand jury members, who came off as very sympathetic towards her situation.

The same cannot be said for Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson), who was hammered and grilled by them for betraying Monica and their friendship. The comparison is quite intriguing, but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that, despite everything she has been through, Monica still wants to know the jurors on a personal level. She’s kind to them, and most people are often just trying to look away from them.

Monica was even kind to the lady who was interrogating her about every sexual encounter, congratulating her on her pregnancy. It’s hard to know whether or not this is how she really was, but if so, color me impressed at the composure.

Impeachment: American Crime Story Episode 9 recap: The others

In addition to Monica and Linda being at the center of this episode, this week also focuses on the other women that were affected by Clinton (Clive Owen). We see Paula Jones (Annaleigh Ashford) once again, who is getting a nose job after getting made fun of for her appearance by the media. Along with that, she deals with her crappy husband Steve’s (Taran Killam) attitude, who doesn’t believe anything she has to say. And to make matters worse, they’re not getting any money from trying to sue Clinton because Steve convinced Paula to go public instead of taking the deal they were going to get.

And then we have Juanita Broaddrick (Ashlie Atkinson)! When she was first asked about any inappropriate behavior by the President, she denied it. But in this week’s episode of Impeachment: American Crime Story she changes her mind and alleges that the President raped her. While this should have been a big deal, it isn’t because it can’t be tied with perjury to Clinton. Kenneth Starr just chooses to ignore Juanita’s allegation and acts as if it’s just another one of Clinton’s escapades.

Impeachment: American Crime Story Episode 9 recap: Hillary Clinton

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton (Edie Falco) trudges through the episode with disdain for her husband but no other choice but to support him. She doesn’t flinch when he cries an apology to her, but when he really needs her to, she steps up to defend him. If she can help prevent impeachment, she’s willing to do it, and that is pretty much the image of Hillary Clinton the world has gotten over the years.

This week’s episode truly showed us a side of this scandal that we didn’t quite know about before. In fact, I feel as if we got so many details that we didn’t know what to do with them. I think it’s an important aspect of this that the nation needs to know about, and I’m looking forward to next week’s season finale of this chapter in America’s history.

It’s been a captivating season, nonetheless, and I know come award season, all these people are going to get some major recognition!
