Squid Game season 2 is coming to Netflix! When will it premiere?

Squid Game fans, rejoice! Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed today that the show, which broke several Netflix records, would be returning for another installment, citing to the AP that the show’s popularity simply “[left him] no choice.” Squid Game season 2 is official!

What will Squid Game season 2 be about?

Though no specific plot details have been released yet, Dong-hyuk promises that he is currently in the planning process and that Gi-hun will return in order to do something for the world.

Earlier this year, he also floated the idea of Squid Game season 2 exploring the relationship between the Front Man and his brother, who is in law enforcement. More information about the mysterious man who gives Gi-hun the business card is also in high demand, so audiences may get a chance to see Gong Yoo again as well.

When will Squid Game season 2 premiere?

Squid Game season 2 is still in its early stages, so fans will have to be a bit patient. Because of the show’s complicated plot and big cast, there are logistics to consider when it comes to writing, filming, and editing such a show. The absolute earliest the show could premiere is likely sometime in early 2023, though we wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix held off until sometime closer to Halloween considering its frightening premise.

Who will be in the Squid Game season 2 cast?

Dong-hyuk has already promised that Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, will be back, with the potential for Gong Yoo, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon (who play the mysterious businessman, the Front Man, and the police officer, respectively) to return as well.

Unfortunately, since [spoiler] most of the other characters — such as fan favorites Hwang Jun-ho (played by Wi Ha-joon) and Ali (Anupam Tripathi) — died in season 1, it’s unlikely they will return. However, there is always the potential for flashbacks, so never say never!
