Yellowjackets is truly one of the most daring shows to premiere in 2021. The show depicts a girls’ soccer team that must navigate the wilderness when their plane crashes — and the aftermath of the accident. In addition to its bold concept, its wildly talented cast helps set it apart. The ensemble includes Melanie Lynskey who, in some ways, is our ticket into the group and the mystery surrounding it.

Melanie Lynskey plays the 2021 version of Shauna

When we first meet her, Shauna is one of the shyer, more grounded characters, often playing the right-hand woman to Jackie, the team captain and her best friend. (And perhaps sometimes more than friend? We’ll see!) However, it quickly becomes clear Shauna has something of a dark side, sleeping with Jackie’s boyfriend in high school and mercilessly butchering a rabbit in the present day.

Melanie Lynskey has appeared in many cult classics

Lynskey is best known for her roles in cult classics — particularly in the queer community. Her breakout role was in Heavenly Creatures, where she played opposite Kate Winslet. She also appeared in But I’m a Cheerleader alongside Natasha Lyonne.

More recently, Lynskey appeared as Charlie’s aunt Helen in Perks of Being a Wallflower and the Oscar-nominated film Up in the Air, in which she played George Clooney’s younger sister.

In addition to her film credits, Lynskey has been a series regular on an array of television shows. She became something of a household name after appearing as Rose on the ultra-popular CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men and received a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance in the HBO sitcom Togetherness.

Most recently, Lynskey has appeared on the first season of Castle Rock and the historical Hulu miniseries Mrs. America alongside a cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Uzo Aduba, and Rose Bryne.
