4400 season 1 episode 6 recap: What’s going on at Yspi Med?
Hayden has a disturbing vision of Mildred screaming in pain and getting injected at Yspi Med, making him all the more determined to break her out. He’s enjoying living with Logan and even convinces Mariah to help him with the plan as long as he can promise her dad won’t find out, gathering supplies like scrubs, thumb drives, and a crystal that’s supposed to strengthen your powers.
Hayden also eventually convinces Andre and LaDonna to help him, and Andre manages to get hospital access via Jharrel, telling the staff he’s going to shadow some personnel due to his own medical expertise. While there, he learns that the 4400 are in a different wing without visiting hours, meaning they’re going to need a door code to get to Mildred and Noah.
After Andre messes up using the video camera he’s armed with, he must ask Shanice for help despite their current awkwardness. Shanice manages to use her power of memory transfer to see the code but sees something else, too — the memory of her accidentally calling Andre Logan when he was tucking her in.
Andre successfully sneaks in dressed as a doctor, with LaDonna using her powers to disguise herself as a completely different doctor and Hayden masquerading as a patient. They quickly realize the wing is suspicious, as there are no cameras around — meaning no evidence. LaDonna heads to a computer room, pulling up a map and guiding them through the hospital.
Andre and Hayden see some suspicious things as they go, including people with different powers. After LaDonna’s communication breaks up, she disguises herself as Jessica to help them get Mildred out, who’s being restrained with a mask and straight jacket so she can’t use her powers. Once she’s busted out of the restraints, Mildred uses her powers to throw one of the hospital personnel against the wall, breaking many of his bones. LaDonna makes the snap decision to grab an injection gun and stop her before she can kill him.
They realize their time is limited — too limited to get Noah — and flee out the door. There, they spy Logan, who Mariah has called after getting in trouble for having expired car tags. This causes tension between him and Shanice, who disagree on how to parent Mariah. It also leads to Logan defending Hayden, saying he’s a good kid who was brave enough to break the rules in order to help his friend.
Mariah asks Mildred if she wants to talk about what happened to her at Yspi Med, but she says she doesn’t — and maybe never will. Mildred and Hayden wish each other a tearful goodbye, as Mildred has to run away to save someone. Hayden sees a vision of what will happen to her that spooks him but know he has to let her go anyway.
We see that much of this stems from Hayden’s childhood in the 30s, as many people considered him an odd duck and were cruel to him. His mother was the only one who showed him compassion and understood him, but when she died, he was sent to a place very similar to Yspi Med, where they performed numerous painful tests on him. However, his mother always told him to be strong and assured him he had all the tools he needed to survive on his own.
4400 season 1 episode 6 recap: Will Keisha and Jessica last?
Though Keisha is still shaken by what she’s learned about the 4400’s powers, she doesn’t trust the government enough to tell them. Though she and Jharrel both try to talk to the 4400 about it, neither of them can get them to say anything. Instead, they decide to get an update on the people at Yspi Med as a sign of trust.
Before they can do that, however, the 4400 enact their own plan let by Hayden. Though Keisha lets them go without alerting the authorities, she does make them tell her everything they know and is shocked to learn the government is already aware of the powers. It seems they have a plan on what to do with their powers, which is news to Keisha, as Jessica hasn’t said anything to her.
4400 season 1 episode 6 recap: Will the hotel become a church?
Isaiah has started leading a church-centered group for the 4400 and confides in Shanice that he wants to find a way to let people stay at the hotel even after they’re allowed to be released. Some people, he says, don’t have anywhere to go.
Shanice suggests he try to turn the hotel itself into a church in order to create a sanctuary the government might respect. She films one of the sermons Isaiah preaches in order to get the word out and help the plan come to fruition.
