Hawkeye episode 3 recap: Who is Maya?
This episode gives us more information on Maya — aka Echo — and her past. We learn that she is deaf and that, although she wanted to go to a deaf school, her uncle told her it would be better for her to go with all the other kids in the long run. Just like dragons can toggle between two different worlds, so can she.
Maya doesn’t let anything hold her back, becoming a master at karate. In the present day, we see her boxing as well as a heartbreaking moment where her injured uncle tells her to let him go. This lights a fire in her: she wants revenge.
Hawkeye episode 3 recap: How do Kate and Clint escape their precarious situation?
Clint and Kate are still being held hostage by the Tracksuit Mafia, with Clint still irritated that Kate crashed in right before he was going to clear her name from the Ronin suit. Kate is attempting to give one of the mafia members relationship advice when Maya comes in, untying Hawkeye so he can sign to her. She tells him he relies too much on his hearing aid and that he’d be better without it.
Clint continues to be adamant that Kate is not Ronin, but Maya is suspicious — even if it’s not her, it’s clear Ronin is back. Clint tells her Black Widow killed Ronin, and he saw it happen. Kate adds that she didn’t know what the Ronin suit was and only put it on so people wouldn’t know who she was at the auction.
Clint manages to escape and distract the Tracksuit Mafia so Kate can break free, too. During their fight, Maya knocks out Clint’s hearing aid and squashes it under her feet, breaking it. Clint finds a bow and arrow and pins Maya to a wall before breaking Kate free from her restraints.
Clint and Kate manage to flee to a car, with the Tracksuit Mafia following close behind. They struggle to communicate without Clint’s hearing aid but manage to stave them off with Clint driving and Kate shooting an assortment of odd arrows at them, including a purple putty, a plunger, and an acid one. They break free once and for all when Clint and Kate shoot two arrows in the air to make a bomb and duck from a bridge into a subway. There, Clint admits Kate really is one of the greatest archers of all time.
Maya’s interpreter Kazi warns her that continuing to go after Ronin is dangerous, which makes Maya angry. Would he be questioning this if it were her father giving the commands? She reminds him she’s in charge and demands he continue looking into Clint.
Hawkeye episode 3 recap: Will Clint make it home in time for Christmas?
Kate walks Pizza Dog before going to Clint’s house, where she must interpret what his son is saying over the phone on a notepad so they can have a conversation due to Clint’s still-broken hearing aid. His son heartbreakingly tells Clint he understands if he can’t make it home for Christmas after all, and Clint gets chocked up, promising he’ll be there.
Clint and Kate get Clint’s hearing aid fixed before going to a diner. Kate admits she enjoys helping people like this and thinks it’s what she was born to do because of how her dad was. Clint warns her that being a hero comes at a price, but Kate says there are things you both lose and gain.
She shows him a costume she’s designed so he can stand out more, but he refuses. Not only is it his job to blend in, but he’s also not a role model. Kate tells him that’s not true — after all, he’s missing the holidays with his family to help her, a total stranger.
The two of them start talking business again, with Clint revealing there is someone above Maya. The person above Maya is someone you don’t want to mess with and has bad blood with Ronin.
Kate thinks Jack and Armand are involved with the Tracksuit Mafia somehow, but they need more evidence, so they sneak into her mother’s penthouse to look at their security files. There, they discover Kazi is an employee of Sloan Limited but get locked out before they can look into Jack’s files. When Client goes to look around the house, Jack holds a sword to his throat, telling him not to move.
