This fourth episode begins with the events that preceded Barry Allen being an engagement party pooper at the engagement of Eobard Thawne and Iris West. The scene from last week and this week coincide, leading to Barry calling out Thawne — but this only leads to Barry suiting up into the Reverse-Flash costume. Barry Allen ends up fighting the party guests in Ryan Choi with his Atom tech, Ryan Wilder as Batwoman, Alex Danvers as Sentinel, and Allegra Garcia.

The Flash Season 8 Episode 4: Barry gets some answers from Thawne

After trying to escape with Iris, Thawne takes Barry away from everyone and unveils his plan. Eobard Thawne created a Reverse-Flash Point and wore Barry’s face, causing chaos to turn his team and friends against him. This will all be solidified at midnight. After Barry finds out his evil partner in Thawne’s timeline was Damien Darhk, Allen links up with this mischievous man to try and bring down The Flash. Barry tries to be a convincing villain, but he struggles a bit, leading to Damien being a little skeptical.

Down at STAR Labs, Eobard Thawne’s Team Flash is working on bringing down Barry Allen. Iris and her maid of honor Ryan Wilder are planning Iris’ wedding tomorrow. All of these plans are paused when Darhk and Allen arrive after sneaking in. The two take out Alex, Allegra, and Cecile before going to Chester’s lab, where he and Ryan Choi are. Barry and Damien are able to complete their mission, but Barry stops Darhk from killing anyone. In her loft, Iris is struggling to write her vows, especially after Barry’s words of trying to convince her that the two of them, and not Thawne, are supposed to be together.

After stealing a device that destroys matter from STAR Labs, Damien and Barry return back to Darhk’s penthouse. Damien finds out Barry is not the same Reverse-Flash, but the two find some common ground with one another once they bond over being a father and loving someone else with all of their heart. The two are brainstorming how to fix the timeline, and Barry deduces he needs to reach Mach 20, which can only be achieved through running a runway of 40,000 miles. While this strip of land is impossible to find, Damien suggests he just runs around the world, but Barry doesn’t like it since it would heat the molten core, which would cause countless natural disasters. Barry Allen realizes that, to save his world, he has to do what Despero warned him about and cause Armageddon.

As he is disappearing from existing, Barry makes a play to appeal to Iris again at their loft. Before he can say anything to the love of his life, Barry is interrupted by Eobard Thawne, who tries to manipulate Iris into killing Barry. She doesn’t go through with it but rather shoots Thawne and allows Barry to escape. Barry reunites with Damien before beginning his mission of running around the world. Back at Central City, Damien fends off Frost, Chillblaine, Ryan Choi in his new Atom attire, and Sentinel before eventually being taken down. Barry and Eobard are running and, after hearing this different version of Iris say she loves him, Barry hits the speed marker and runs through the portal.

After traveling back to 2021 and telling Despero what he did, Barry runs up to his team and holds Iris close to him. Barry calls Joe and is overjoyed to hear his patriarch’s voice. All looks to be right until Eobard Thawne is seen within Gideon’s chamber at STAR Labs…
