Hawkeye episode 4 recap: Who did Eleanor call?

Last episode ended with Jack putting a sword to Clint’s throat. Luckily, he gets out of the situation pretty quickly — it turns out, Eleanor and Jack were home and weren’t aware anyone else was in the house. The four of them sit down and talk, with Kate telling them she’s helping Clint with a case.

Eleanor isn’t happy about Kate’s involvement — or the fact she logged onto her work account to get information on someone — but she reluctantly says she trusts everyone to do the right thing. While walking Clint out, she tells him Kate isn’t a superhero. She may be good at what she does, but so was Natasha, and it wasn’t enough to keep her alive. Clint promises he’ll keep Kate safe.

After the conversation, Eleanor can be seen making a phone call, telling the person on the other end of the line there’s something urgent. Who could she be talking to?

Hawkeye episode 4 recap: Is Laura Barton more involved than we thought?

Clint asks Laura to look into Sloan LTD for him, and she discovers the company is a front for the Tracksuits — of which Jack is the CEO. It’s unfortunate timing considering Jack was finally starting to grow on Kate after seeing how genuinely happy he seems to make her mom.

After a conversation with her mom about how family is important around Christmastime, Kate makes it her mission to bring some cheer to Clint, who can’t be with his own family yet. They watch movies, drink margaritas, and even do coin tricks, but the night eventually turns serious when Clint tells the story of meeting Natasha. He was supposed to kill her, but he couldn’t go through with it — the best shot he ever took was the one he never did.

Not only is he still mourning Natasha, but he’s still plagued by memories of his family disappearing in the blip. Kate puts the pieces together and realizes his grief is why he became Ronin. Though she says he’s a hero who just made some mistakes, Clint’s not so sure. All he knows is he now needs to fix the mess they’re in.

That includes talking to Kazi and trying to convince him to talk Maya down. Maya, Clint says, is chasting a ghost — and a dangerous one at that. Meanwhile, Kate visits the LARPers to get Clint’s trick arrows out of NYPD evidence. She gets their help in exchange for the promise of helping them acquire new LARPing costumes.

Hawkeye episode 4 recap: Who does the Rolex belong to?

While on the phone with Laura, a new obstacle is added into the mix: a Rolex that went missing from the compound. Though Clint thought it was destroyed, it turns out, it wasn’t. They track it to an apartment, which he and Kate stake out.

The stakeout doesn’t last long, though, with Kate getting impatient and breaking into the place. She manages to find the watch — and information someone has written about Clint’s family. She comes face-to-face with Maya, and they begin fighting in the apartment.

Clint is having his own struggles, fighting a Black Widow assassin on the roof. Kate manages to zipline from the building onto the roof but gets thrown off the side of it in the struggle. Clint cuts her down, telling her to go home, but Kate runs back up to the roof anyway. She shoots a powerful arrow, effectively ending the fight. Maya flees, and the assassin’s mask gets ripped off, revealing Natasha’s sister Yelena Belova. Kate nearly shoots her with an arrow but stops herself when Yelena shakes her head. Yelena escapes off the side of the roof.

Kate frantically asks Clint what’s going on, saying they can’t be partners if he doesn’t tell her anything. Clint, spooked by the fact someone has hired a Black Widow assassin, tells her they’re not partners and he’s going to do the rest of the mission alone. He tells her to go home, but Kate is still determined to help.
