Does His Dark Materials season 3 have a release date?
BBC-HBO His Dark Materials is returning for its third and final season. The series is based upon books written by Philip Pullman.
Season 1 followed The Golden Compass, season 2 continued with The Subtle Knife, which leaves the upcoming season 3 following The Amber Spyglass. The story follows Lyra Belacqua living in another world similar to ours except for certain aspects like the existence of Daemons and The Magisterium.
She’s independent and immature but also brave and loyal. She receives a very coveted and rare alethiometer, which she can use to find the answers to questions.
Her uncle, Lord Asriel, has been focused on the study of “dust” and has reason to believe other worlds exist, which goes against everything The Magisterium believes. Upon meeting the elusive and often volatile Mrs. Coulter, Lyra figures out that her uncle may be on to something.
Fans of His Dark Materials can rejoice, as the series will return for its final season later this year!
Her journey to find her uncle takes her to different places while meeting new faces, such as the witch Serafina Pekkala and Lee Scoresby. Lyra begins to realize there is more to the story than just “dust.”
By season 2, Lyra has found her way into our world, meeting Will Parry, who is trying to understand what happened to his missing father. The two wind up becoming friends and journey to another world with Mrs. Coulter not far behind.
At the end of season 2, Will reunites and loses his father, and Lyra gets captured by Mrs. Coulter, who turns out to be her mother. Her uncle Lord Asriel was actually her father the entire time.
So where does this leave our characters in season 3? The good news is season 3 will be airing in the fall of this year. However, there is no definitive release date.
Dafne Keen (Lyra), Amir Wilson (Will), James McAvoy (Lord Asriel), and Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Coulter) are just some of the actors reprising their roles for the final season. While there is no official trailer just yet, His Dark Materials is shown in the following teaser HBO Max posted on Twitter.
How will this series end? Will Lyra be able to stop her father and somehow save all the worlds in the process?
