4400 season 1 episode 10 recap: Is Jharrel’s brother Manny alive?

In this episode, we get to see some flashbacks of Jharrel’s relationship with his brother Manny. We find out that Manny had a strained relationship with his father — so much so that he didn’t show up to his funeral and had his tattoo with his dad’s name covered up. Manny’s father told him he would never amount to anything because of some mistakes in his childhood. Jharrel is concerned when he goes to see Manny and he is clearly sick. Despite some tension between them, Jharrel vows to stay until he feels better.

Manny tells him he’s working for a private company on a confidential project. However, even though this company is powerful, Manny will always do what he thinks is right — no matter what anyone else says or the consequences.

It seems that becomes important in the present day after Jharrel gets arrested. Jessica accuses Jharrel of stealing files from Ypsi Med because Manny told him to, but Jharrel swears he has no idea what she’s talking about — nor does he know where Manny is. When they continue to question him, Jharrel realizes they don’t actually have Manny and don’t know what he’s up to. If they did, they wouldn’t be interrogating him about it.

Jharrel feels betrayed that Soraya is seemingly on their side, but she proves herself loyal by subtly slipping him the Wrinkle in Time book, where the words “white” and “would” are circled on the page. Eventually, they let Jharrel go — with the book in hand.

Jharrel puts the pieces together and realizes “white would” really means “white wood,” which — when you translate it to French — is Bois Blanc: the name of the hotel they’re staying at. Jharrel pieces more things together by looking at a new number and hour-hand drawn on the clock on the book.

He remembers a conversation he had with Manny about the golden ratio and nature’s secret code and how he was getting paid to work on investigating “the space between spaces.” Jharrel realizes the number he’s looking for is 437 and goes to that room, where he reunites with Manny, who we find out now has the power to turn himself invisible.

4400 season 1 episode 10 recap: Will Isaiah have a change of heart?

Keisha and Isaiah are in an elevator together bringing food to the 4400 when the power goes out and they get stuck. Isaiah has a panic attack, and Keisha helps calm him down — something her ex-girlfriend Jessica taught her how to do.

Isaiah is shocked at the revelation that Keisha is gay and tells her about the gay son he won’t reach out to due to his religious beliefs. This upsets Keisha, and she says that those who hate or are prejudiced are the real sinners. Once they make it out of the elevator, Keisha says she won’t tell the others about his homophobic opinions but that she is judging him this once. His son is better off without him, and he would have lost him with or without the green light.

4400 season 1 episode 10 recap: Can Claudette help Mildred?

Claudette is not messing around when it comes to protecting herself, even arming herself with a baseball bat when working at the bar. She’s holding said baseball bat when she goes to investigate something outside the bar, only to find Mildred. She takes her inside and out of the storm to protect her, particularly because she’s wanted by the law.

Claudette questions why she threw the man out the window, and Mildred says she just wanted to help everyone who was locked up like her. She’s worried to go back to the sanctuary at the hotel because she’s afraid all the others hate her even though Isaiah took away her powers. This is news to Claudette — news she’s clearly not happy about.

Claudette attempts to give Mildred a makeover so it will be harder for her to be spotted, but Mildred panics when she touches her. Claudette is patient, telling her she’s allowed to be angry and she knows how she feels. She reveals she’s been making her own tear gas, not trusting them not to track her if she purchases it online. Mildred seems skeptical of her methods, but Claudette says she’ll only use it if they’re threatened. She not only gives Mildred a makeover but also hangs up a poster with her face that says “Embrace Your Power.”

4400 season 1 episode 10 recap: How does Mariah feel about Shanice and Andre?

Shanice and Andre lie in bed together, and Shanice expresses that she’s nervous about how vulnerable everyone is with the tip line. Andre calms Shanice, saying she can’t be responsible for everyone. Right now, she can just enjoy the fact the two of them are free and together, especially since she doesn’t have to worry about her powers anymore.

Mariah video chats Shanice and sees the two of them together, which leads to a few awkward exchanges after the fact. However, Mariah and Shanice finally have a real conversation about it, and not only is Mariah fine with it, but she has some news of her own: she has a crush on Mildred.

Mariah’s not the only one warming up to Andre. Though he and Logan get off to a rocky start trying to restart the generator when the power goes out, Logan grows impressed by the skills Andre learned in WWI. Logan eventually admits he understands why Shanice likes him and says he appreciates their bromance.

At the end of the episode, we find out a mysterious company called BHN has donated a massive amount of money to the 4400 crowdfunding campaign and even bought the hotel. Who are they? And what could their motives be?
