Law and Order: SVU casts Carisi’s mom — find out who’s playing her!
By Taylor Gates
Law and Order: SVU is a historic show, to say the least. Now in its 23rd season, the NBC crime procedural has managed to stay relevant, fresh, and engaging for over two decades now.
Anchored by Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, the show has had many mian characters over the years. From Elliot Stabler (who’s back on Law and Order: Organized Crime now!), Fin Tutuola, Donald Cragen, and John Munch to more recent squad members like Amanda Rollins, Nick Amaro, Kat Tamin, and Joe Velasco, each one brings something compelling and different to the table.
One fan favorite is Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, who joined the squad in season 16 as a detective and now serves as the team’s ADA. Luckily, we’ll get to find out even more about him, as a future episode will see him go home to attend a family dinner, introducing us to more of his family.
Beverly D’Angelo will play Carisi’s mom in SVU
Carisi has a large Italian family — some of whom we’ve seen before. For instance, a season 19 episode saw his niece Mia prominently featured. However, we’ve never gotten to meet Carisi’s mom. Thankfully, that’s set to change in March.
Beverly D’Angelo, who’s perhaps best known for her role as Ellen Griswold in the National Lampoon’s Vacation films, has been cast in the role. D’Angelo is an esteemed actress, having won an Emmy for her performance in A Streetcar Named Desire.
This isn’t the first time D’Angelo has been on SVU, either! She played Rebecca Balthus, a public defender, in the show’s fifth and ninth seasons. If you’ll remember, her son is a repeat offender, too, as Peter Scanavino appeared in the season 14 episode “Monster’s Legacy” before starring as Carisi.
