How I Met Your Father Season 1 Episode 7 recap: Rivka Rebel

As Sophie has her first big opportunity as a photographer, Jesse and Sid try not to procrastinate in this week’s episode of How I Met Your Father season 1.

This seventh episode of How I Met Your Father season 1 begins with Future Sophie talking about her first opportunity as a photographer so it will not have sex, but it will have drugs.

Back in the present day, Sophie meets with her idol, Naomi Reisberg, who Sophie believes might show off some of the photos from her portfolio. It turns out Reisberg’s photographer for her daughter’s bat mitzvah dropped off so she had her staff pick someone “halfway decent and available” and Sophie was chosen. After Sophie lies and says she always has an assistant, she heads off to her friends.

At Pemberton’s, as Ellen explains how she is figuring out her next career move, Charlie explains how he is living the dream as Sid’s new bartender. This culminates with the British bartender reading the praise he gets from Yelp.

Sophie arrives and shares her deflating news and guilts Valentina into being her aforementioned assistant. Jesse and Sid describe their upcoming “Pound Day” where they lock themselves in their apartment and pound out all of their work and prevent the other from procrastinating.

How I Met Your Father Season 1 Episode 7: Sid and Jesse pound out their work

In their apartment, the dudes are settling into their Pound Day. Jesse is working on writing his first song since his viral breakup and Sid is working on wedding stuff that Hannah has been on him to do.

Before they even get started, a pigeon distracts them which leads Sid to search one thing and the next thing you know, they are watching an 18-minute long makeup tutorial on how to look like a bird.

When Sophie and Valentina show up at the bat mitzvah, Valentina discovers Naomi Reisberg’s daughter is the popular influencer Rivka Rebel. After a cold introduction that explains why the last photographer quit, Sophie and Valentina realize they have a stressful night ahead of them.

Charlie comes back out from the back of the bar and breaks the news that he received one negative and naturally begins spiraling. With the “help” of Ellen who seems to be helping because she is around, Charlie tries to oversell himself to make up for his bad review.

When Ellen starts using the same language as the mean reviewer, Charlie accuses her of being the mean one. When Ellen checks her phone, she remembers she drunkenly downloaded Yelp since Charlie was making her feel bad about not having a job and girlfriend and overall happier life.

How I Met Your Father Season 1 Episode 7: Valentina messes up

As they are spending the day preventing themselves from procrastinating, remember, Jesse and Sid do the full makeup tutorial on each other. Sid did a better job on Jesse than the reverse but Sid doesn’t hate his friend’s work so they decide to take pics of their craftsmanship.

It turns out, however, that they left the window open and their apartment is filled with pigeons now. The guys lock themselves in their bathroom as they call animal control but they are no help so they decide to bring their snacks to the fire escape to lead the birds outside. The two get outside (alone) and accidentally lock themselves out of their apartment.

After some failed attempts by Valentina trying to appeal to Rivka’s fashion sense, Sophie comes back to find her best friend getting along with the bratty influencer. After the children begin acting like Valentina’s first time on Adderall, it all clicks for her. Rivka and her friends stole Valentina’s tin of drugs from her purse and are therefore high at this event filled with New York’s elite.

After she reveals her real job is less glamorous, Valentina discovers the mint tin with her drugs in it is in her jacket, which means the kids are on ibuprofen and antibiotics. The besties use this to their advantage to scare the kids into making sure Sophie’s pics come out perfect.

How I Met Your Father Season 1 Episode 7: Inspiration will come…

On the fire escape, Sid explains to Jesse that he once had a dream about two weddings, with one in India as well as the US, but how he is scared to bring it up since Hannah is so busy flying around the country. Jesse hears his friend out and shares how he is scared that he will never be able to write again without his ex.

The two buds explain how their respective relationships with Hannah and Music will all work out in the end as Animal Control comes in and lets them back in their apartment. Within their apartment, Charlie tries to fix his incidental mistake in hurting Ellen. He apologizes for his unfairness and shows her a review that he wrote about his friend and roommate.

Naomi Reisberg gives her compliments to Sophie for facilitating such wonderful photos of her daughter’s celebration and agrees to see one photo from Sophie that perfectly envisions her as an artist. Although she does not have a photo in mind yet, she is in the same boat as Jesse who looks to be on a path of success with his songwriting.
